We are pleased to share an update on the progress of our Green Ambassadors – Youth for Sustainable Pakistan project, which continues PILDAT’s efforts to engage young people in addressing the growing challenges posed by climate change and strengthening their role in climate governance. Since our last update, PILDAT has continued working to build young people’s understanding of climate change, governance, and community-level action. While funding for the project remains limited, we have been able to advance its objectives through our wider youth engagement and civic education initiatives, creating additional opportunities for young people to learn about climate governance and their potential role in shaping local responses to climate-related challenges.
A key focus of this work has been helping young people understand that climate action is not limited to environmental awareness or individual action. Effective climate resilience also depends on understanding and knowing which institutions are responsible for different aspects of climate and disaster management, and where citizens can engage with these institutions. Through our youth-focused initiatives, we are helping participants develop a clearer understanding of these structures and identify practical avenues for civic participation and advocacy. Our ongoing engagement with young people in climate-vulnerable districts has also provided opportunities to connect climate issues with local governance.
This work is particularly important in a country where young people make up a significant proportion of the population which is 64% and where communities continue to face the effects of floods, extreme heat, and other climate-related risks. By strengthening young people’s knowledge of governance and giving them the confidence to engage with relevant institutions, we are laying the groundwork for more informed and locally responsive climate action. The progress made so far demonstrates how your support for Youth for Sustainable Pakistan continues to contribute to a broader effort to equip Pakistan’s young people with the knowledge and skills needed to participate meaningfully in climate governance. Even where resources have been constrained, the project’s objectives have remained integrated into PILDAT’s wider work with youth, allowing these efforts to continue reaching young people and building awareness around climate resilience and civic participation. We remain committed to expanding this work and reaching more young people, particularly those living in communities most exposed to climate-related risks. Continued support will allow us to deepen these efforts, provide more structured opportunities for youth engagement, and strengthen young people’s ability to translate their understanding of climate governance into action within their communities.
Thank you for standing with us and supporting our efforts to empower Pakistan’s young people as informed and engaged contributors to a more sustainable and resilient future.
Warm regards,
Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development And Transparency – PILDAT
