8 boys and 8 girls between 9 months and 12 years of age, coming from different places of Colombia will benefit during next six months from this project, as soon as we receive the funds from GlobalGiving.
Five children under 4 years of age will attend together with their parents to Fisulabs prevention program on monthly basis. This program consists of groupal speech and psychology therapies and pediatric dentistry controls to make a follow up in their general development. From speech therapy an emphasis is made in language development to opportunely detect the appearance of cleft palate inherent alterations; the participation in psychology is focused to education and emotional patterns which allows opportune detection of parent-child inconveniencies due to unsolved duels; pediatric dentisty concentrates in provide all required oral health education patterns on individual basis and the proper follow up.
8 children between 4 and 7 years-old are going to be treated in speech therapy, few of them have participated of the prevention program, but due to their growing process speech alterations need to be controlled to secure their good development before entering school, and a permanent control of their ears and audition. They also initiate an orthodontic interception whose objective is to early correct malocclusion and prepare the dental arcs (gums) to alveolar bone graft. Psychology in this stage makes a close follow up and accompaniment to the schooling entrance as well as to developing strategies to a better adjustment to the use of dental appliances.
3 children between 10 and 12 years-old, having already the alveolar bone graft get into a new stage of the dental treatment for the final corrections of malocclusion and other dental alterations. Being in this preteen stage they begin to present new alterations in social adjustment which are dully treated by psychology.
