Approximately 900 children in Colombia are born with cleft lip or palate but only a small % of these cases are treated. Children born with this condition suffer many more problems than you would imagine. They often face rejection from their family, suffer from feeding problems, and are frequently subjects of mockery and abuse. Leading them to, drop out school, suffer a family break down and become victims of social isolation in general.
Cleft lip and palate children dont have access to an opportune, adequate, high-quality treatment which will assure a positive acceptance of their condition and will permit them to grow with love, self-acceptance of themselves and success in their rehabilitation. This lack of opportunity to this kind of integral treatment traduces in inequity to children with this condition.
