Nurse Aid classes with their Red Cross colleagues
Nurse Aid classes with their Red Cross colleagues

This quarter saw a flurry of activity with more classes and delivery as we make up for lost time. Maintaining our high Covid standards we’ve been teaching both theory and practicals on a condensed schedule – it has its challenges, but it’s working!

We’ve got one group of girls out on their specialism training, becoming experts in Hotel & Catering, Cutting and Designing, Braiding & Weaving and more. The girls have reported having a great time and learning loads not to mention moving towards a sustainable future via good job prospects.

We’ve also been delighted to welcome a new class and in addition to the usual lessons on Life Skills we’ve held some special events. At a careers day we were delighted to welcome in a few companies who talked to the girls about potential jobs and working with some of our inspirational graduates we had talks from ex-students. One is now working in international law and another who has been working at a rehabilitation centre and has just been offered a three year scholarship in Rehabilitation and Speech Therapy. Having role models like these come in and talk to new classes can really made the difference. We’ve also had an HIV & AIDS workshop with the special bonus that it was delivered by another of our graduates who specialised in Nurse Aid, and is now an HIV & AIDS counsellor at Harare Hospital.

Of course it’s not all good news as with a challenging funding environment we’re unsure if future cutbacks are on the horizon. With this in mind we’d like to thank all our donors and supporters and ask that if you know anyone else willing to help then please act now.

Many thanks
