Rafiki Girls Centre February 2023 Update

Memory and other graduates
Memory and other graduates

How about a sucess story?

Memory (name changed to protect identity)

Memory is a Rafiki Girls Centre graduate. Raised in a family of three with her mother’s vegetable vending business being their source of livelihood, she yearned for improved living conditions for her family. She developed interest in cooking as a young girl. Following her completion of the academic Ordinary Level with an incomplete certificate and two years of failing to establish personal development opportunities due to lack of financial resources, she applied and was engaged at Rafiki Girls Centre.

Memory began believing that her dream to own and operate a catering business one day would come true when, through her performance during the first phase of training at Rafiki, she was allocated to the Hotel and Catering course for specialisation. Rafiki established an internship placement for her at Gava’s restaurant in Harare and, before she could complete training, her excellent work ethics had affected an upgrade for her to full time employment with a monthly remuneration of US250.

She notes, “I am happy that I managed to change family’s life style. From zero, I now earn US$250. My mother now walks in the streets of Zengeza with dignity.” She further stated her wish for information regarding Rafiki Girls Centre a centre for transformation, to be fully disseminated in Zimbabwe to avail a second chance to young women in undesirable conditions.

Thanks to our donors, who help make stories like this happen every day.
