Dear GEM Supporters,

2021 is finally here, and from all of us at Girls Education Mission International we wish you a wonderful and productive year!

2020 challenged all of us in unforeseen ways. But with your unwavering support, and your unstoppable determination to ensure our vision is possible, we’ve been working tirelessly to provide support to girls, and support young women to become empowered and productive. With millions more girls now at risk of never returning to school, this work has never been more important.

We had an amazing finish line for 2020, having you making genrous donation to our project suring the last month of the year.

This positive trend is here to stay- but it needs your cooperation and continues support.

As we embark on 2021, here are just a few of the many moments of our impact last year:

We provided professional development training to 60 teachers towards improving quality education and learning outcome of girls in Plateau State.

We provided 600 hundred Text and Workbooks to 58 schools as part of our effort to keep them learning despite the lockdown.

We have supported the education of 5 girls to ensure their completion in institution of higher learning.

We have brougth together 15 girls  for a first ever mentoring program incommearation of the 2020 International Day of the Girl child tagged "Reimagining Girls Future Conference".

All these were made possible because of your generosity.

Girls Education Mission International has lunched its microproject on globalgiving http://goto.gg/50411 which aim at mobilizing funds to set up a sustainable model of keeping girls in school by establishing a sanitary Pad production unit that will produced hygienic and subsized cost pad to ensure affordability for all Women and girls. This in turn will ensure Girls. are retained and complete their education with dignity.

The microproject http://goto.gg/50411  which has a goal of $10000 will be expiring in less than 30 days.  W e beleve that with you our sustainable model to keeping girls in school is posssible.

Thank you so much for the part you palyed in making 2020 a cedible for us at Girls Educatin Mission International

Once again,  we are wishing you a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year.

From all of us at Girls Education Mission International.

With the COVID-19 Pandemic impacting everyday life, we want to thank you for your continued support and wish you healthy and safety.

It has been a tough time for Girls Education Mission International adapting to these unprecedented circumstances. For us, the lockdown and social distance as preventive measures against the Corona Virus are one of the greatest threats posed by COVID-19 on our organization. Our capacity for us to work remotely was limited. This in number of ways limits our operations and affecting our work. All these has detrimental effects and are threats to the impact and sustainability of Girls Education Mission International.

Of more concern is that the situation will be even worse after the Corona Virus due to the unpredictable Nigerian context marked by economic instability. While there is a lot of uncertainty, we know that we need to adapt fast our changing reality. Now, more than ever, our girls need us.

Right now, we are doing everything possible to sustain our operations and provide services to our community.

The Good News!

We are glad to inform you that GlobalGiving has awarded Girls Education Mission International a COVID-19 Micro Grant of $1,000. This is a great achievement to us all. In order to ensure not to roll back the gain we’ve recorded so far, we are designing a long term sustainability plan. We plan to launch a sanitary pad production that would enable us continue to serve our community as best as we can.

The sanitary pad production when launched, we hope that it would help us:

  1. Provide greater access to free, affordable and hygienic period products to girls.
  2. Generate income to support girl’s education and other resources to lift girls and their communities of poverty.

We know that times are tough, but Girls Education Mission International has an important role to play by continuing operations to best serve our girls. We have created a COVID-19 Response Appeal fundraiser that you can Donate Right now if you are able https://www.globalgiving.org/fundraisers/girlsemergencyfund/. Note that For five days straight (Sept. 14-18), all donations made to our project up to $50 will be matched at 50%.

If you are unable to donate at this time, there are many other ways you can support us. You can advocate for us by sharing our mission with a family member or friend, set up a fundraiser on our behalf. Even a quick mention on your social media would mean much to us.

In times like this we are reminded of how interconnected we all are. Thank you for being part of our community. Without you, none of it is possible. Stay safe and well.

Right now, we struggle to do everything possible to sustain operations and to keep in touch with our girls. Now more than ever, our girls need us more especially with the alarming rates of domestic violence reported to us on a daily basis. Such alarming situations make us continue to build our hope for support from you.  Beacuse the Girls need us now more than ever, so we do to you. Happy New DECADE!

Welcome to our Decade of Possibilities and Greetings on behalf of Girls Education Mission International. As I reflect on all that GEM has accomplished in 2019, your sercifice of resources, time and supportive engagements with our work is one of the biggest headlines ringing in my mind. You have been such a bright beacon of support for our whole community. When we announced our partnership with TY Danjuma Foundation and asked for support for the #GirlsEducationNowOrNever program last year, it was in the hope that we could expand our reach and build upon previous work in our communities while giving more opportunities for more girls to complete their education. We didn’t know how it will go and we weren’t sure what the response would be, but you have exceeded our wildest dreams.Together, we mobilized, inspired and changed the lives of girls for better. Our project "Girls Education Now Or Never" has enabled over 100 secondary school girls complete their education with dignity, having 67 of them trained on various vocational skills who enjoyed five months monthly mentoring sessions where we distributed over 5000 Sanitary Pads. What an incredible year we leave behind us! Together, we mobilized, inspired and accelerate the transformation of our communities. We would like to thank you by sharing photo highlights of our work in the last 12 months. This link https://www.girlseducationmission.org/blog/our-2019-in-photos.html  showcases the incredible work that your engagements has made possible.

Swinging into 2020, we are working hard in mobilizing resources with plans to support even more girls have access to quality education. We are thrilled to enter into the decade of Possibilities with amazing Possibility stories. On January 24th, the International Day for Education, we have signed an agreement of partnership with TY Danjuma Foundation to train public Primary and Junior Secondary School Teachers in Plateau State towards quality education of teachers and improved learning outcome most especially of the Girl Child.

WHAT'S Next? At GEM, we never settle, we are committed to finding solutions and creating lasting impact through advocating for a better society where the rights of girls especially that of education is respected. And we believe those solutions can come from anyone, anywhere at anytime, that’s why we trust in passionate, committed and supportive people like YOU. I am delighted to inform you that our project https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/girls-scholarship-program/  is qualified to participate in the 2020 'Girl Fund'  and 'Little by Little' campaigns coming up March 6th - 13th and 23rd - 27th. The Campaign is going to be a chance to have our Project win Bonus and Prizes. As you are aware, making impact is our mission, however funding has been the barrier. These funraising Campaigns hereby is an opportunity for YOU to make a lasting impact through DONATION, creating a fundraiser for our project or sharing our project with your networks as this will accelerate our support to ensuring girls' enrollment, retaintion and completion in school.

Finally, GEM has closed out 2019 with an enormous feeling of Pride, Joy and Gratitude. The progress we had made last year in ensuring 100 girls completed secondary education has been remarkable and commendable. Here’s to a great decade of Possibilities starting January.

  Mark you Calender

Once a gain, thanks for making 2019 incredibly Possible. We look forward to doing more with you this year!

Cheers to you and yours,

Keturah Shammah
