The Boys and Girls Club: A longtime recipient

The holidays are already here; at least here at Family Giving Tree. While most people are getting ready for fall, our Agency Coordinator is already working with our partner agencies by hosting orientations and assisting with requests as wishes begin to trickle in for the 2018 Holiday Wish Drive.

The relationships Family Giving Tree has with each of our 400+ partner social service agencies are crucial to fulfilling our mission of delivering joy through requested gifts. Through these partnerships, Family Giving Tree is able to make each recipient feel like a valued and recognized part of our community.

Just as our mission depends on these nonprofit partnerships, as a small organization with a full-time staff of only twelve employees, we rely on you, the community to help us deliver joy to over 75,000 children from low-income families, seniors in-need, and homeless adults. It’s as easy as picking up a tag, shopping for a gift, and dropping it off at our warehouse or making a donation online. Even one gift makes a difference. You can be the one to deliver their joy this holiday season.

A Fire Truck! Just What I Wished For
A Fire Truck! Just What I Wished For

The holidays have passed but the images of happy times remain in our recipient’s mind. Last time we spoke, I let you know some of the key statistics surrounding our last Holiday Wish Drive success. Today I want to share a couple of stories behind the numbers of those memories you made possible. The agency names have been withdrawn to honor their wishes for anonymity.

"We had a low-income child who loves to play with fire trucks and on the day that we gave him a big fire truck that was given by The giving tree.  The child was so happy and I took a picture of him and I will never forget the smile he had. His mom had tears in her eyes and she said Thank you so much and I told her to thank the Giving Tree."

"Our parents were overjoyed and grateful to be presented with such a wonderful selection of gifts, tailored towards their unique children! Needless to say, there were many smiles and happy tears. Your hard work and contribution of toys made the holiday possible and bright for all of our families, but particularly our low income and homeless families and their children."

"A single mother who spends quality time with her daughter, but who lacks quantity due to working to support her child, was very pleased with the Leapfrog Alphabet Learning toy her daughter received. After the mother comes from work she spends time with her helping her learn the letters' names and sounds in a way her daughter enjoys. The mother, who is not a native English speaker, is also learning while helping her daughter."

Imagine 80,000 similar stories all over the Bay Area because of your generosity! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and theirs. You make a difference.

Joy!
Joy!

You did it! You made a difference this holiday season. Because of you, 80,000 low-income children, individuals, and seniors in-need received holiday gifts. To give you an idea on the scope of whom we serve and where, below are some statistics on the 2017 Holiday Wish Drive:

  • 400+ partner agencies in 65 cities
  • 13 counties around the Bay Area
  • 69% were children under the age of 13
  • 8% were families with children under the age of three years old
  • 7,000 volunteers in warehouse

Your generosity spread everywhere across the Bay Area this holiday season. Chances are you delivered joy to someone who lives near you. Thank you for all of your support and dedication. None of it would be possible without you.

A grateful agency picking up gifts!
A grateful agency picking up gifts!

Today is a day of celebration for many; families are gathering in homes across the nation enjoying time together. As you open your own gifts today, please take a moment to think about those most in-need opening gifts for the first time and imagine their joy. Without your support, that warmth would be missing from their holiday experience. Because of you, many local, low-income families are opening their specific wished-for gifts as a part of the merriment.

There is still much work to be done. Thousands of gifts have already been distributed from our warehouse but we still have many more gifts to deliver, including wishes on our waitlist. A final count will not be ready until the New Year but we wanted to take a quick break to share our thanks for your generosity thus far.

Thank you from the bottom of their hearts and ours.

The leaves are changing, the nights are cooler, the days are shorter, and Halloween candy in stores signals that summer is officially over. The holidays are fast approaching. For many, this is a time of celebrating gift giving with family and friends. For those we serve, it is a reminder that they cannot provide those happy memories for their children.

Family Giving Tree has already been preparing for December since July to collect wishes from the over 300 partner social service agencies in the twelve counties we serve. We can’t do it alone. You can provide 80,000 Bay Area children and individuals in-need with joy by granting their specific holiday wish.

During this Season of Giving, your donation will provide joy to children like Aundrey, age 5, from our partner agency Betty Howard Day Care wishes for a Doc Mcstuffins Doc Doll or a Princess sleeping bag.

You have the opportunity to give joy to someone who doesn’t expect the community to care. Will you take it?
