Meds By Bike - Up and Running!

Delivering Meds: Directly to the Patient's House!

During 2016, Haverim delivered over 3,800 packages of free medicine to people in need all over Israel. We send them out via registered mail, or deliver them in the Mobile Pharmacy van. But more and more bed-ridden, chronically-ill and elderly patients couldn't reach the post office of the distribution points to pick up their free meds.

We decided to take the project to the road, with a growing network of motorcycles, each  equipped with a ‘Cool Meds’ cooler box; special containers that meet the strictest Ministry of Health criteria for pharmaceutical storage and transfer.

Every cooler box includes a GPS system for real-time tracking of each package of medication, the time it was delivered to the patient, and  a temperature gauge to maintain and monitor a fixed temperature, so vital in Israel's hot climate. The motorbikes then deliver personal packages of free medicine to the patients.

We're happy to announce that the second motorcyle has been delivered and is scheduled to hit the road next week.

Our goal? 3 more motorcycles for 2017 and 8 more during 2018.

‘Meds Now’ Mobile Application

In order to enable real-time and urgent communications between the patient, Haverim and the motorcycles, Haverim will be developing a mobile application.  The application will be linked to the Mobile Pharmacy in order to update as to the location and delivery of every package of medicine, and in order to manage stock.

New Meds By Bike: Delivering free medicines!

During 2016, Haverim delivered over 3,800 packages of free medicine to people in need all over Israel. In 2015, we delivered 3,200 packages a month, but kept receiving a phone call for help every 5 minutes in average, and a rise in urgent and immediate requests.

This year we decided that we simply must help more people!

We decided to take the Free Pharmacy out from our offices – directly to the patients, using motorcycles. The new Meds by Bike Project is planned to deliver Haverim’s free medication to five major cities in Israel during 2017, and seven more during 2018.

The free medicine we deliver is donated by pharmaceutical companies, or gathered in one of our hundreds of collection centers, where it is rigorously sorted by our volunteer pharmacists. Currently, the medicines are then sent by mail to the patient. But what happens when a bed-ridden or elderly patient can't reach the post office to pick up his or her meds?

That's when we initiated the Meds By Bike project - to complete 'last mile' of free medicine delivery.

Meds by Bike Project in Detail

Patients in need of urgent or chronic medication can contact Haverim, and after a brief verification process, send us their prescriptions for immediate delivery. Each motorbike will be equipped with a ‘Cool Meds’ cooler box; special containers that meet the strictest Ministry of Health criteria for pharmaceutical storage and transfer. Every cooler box includes a GPS system for real-time tracking of each package of medication, the time it was delivered to the patient, and  a temperature gauge to maintain and monitor a fixed temperature, so vital in Israel's hot climate. The motorbikes will then deliver personal packages of free medicine to the patients.

During 2016, Haverim delivered over 4000 packages of free medicine to people in need all over Israel every month, 20% more than in 2015. Currently we receive a phone call for help every 5 minutes in average, and a rise in urgent and immediate requests.

Delivering medication directly to the patient, in a temperature-controlled and GPS-monitored cold-storage box.

In order to ensure the safe delivery of the medication during the 'last mile':  from the mobile pharmacy to the patients' homes, we will be purchasing 300 'Cool Meds' storage boxes. These are special containers that meet the strictest Ministry of Health criteria for pharmaceutical storage and transfer.

Each robust, light-weight and hygienic cold-storage box is delivered directly to the residence of the patient, where they are unpacked and then returned to Haverim for re-use.

By mobilizing our delivery, we can reach even more patients every year, surpassing our current delivery rate of 3,800 packages a month.

Ensuring the delivery of quality medicine

In order to maintain the medicine's viability, every unit includes a GPS system for real-time tracking of each package of medication, and the time it was delivered to the patient, as well as a temperature gauge to maintain and monitor a fixed temperature, so vital in Israel's hot climate.

The Keep Cool Meds box arrives in 3 sizes:

  • Small – for personal delivery of medication to up to 3 patients
  • Medium – for delivery of medication by bicycle or motorbike to up to 7 patients
  • Large – for delivery of medication by the Mobile Pharmacy van to up to 20 patients.

Mobile Pharmacy Van: Distribution Free Meds!
Mobile Pharmacy Van: Distribution Free Meds!

We are happy and proud to announce the launch of the Mobile Pharmacy Van!
The van was delivered end February and immediately hit the road, delivering free medication to hundreds of people all across Israel.

The van has solved a challenging situation we confronted: How do we safely deliver the medication to the people, in a temperature controlled environment? The Mobile Pharmacy Van includes temperature monitoring and a GPS System per each medicine-delivery box, which enables us to know at any moment where each package is.

Thank you!

It took us two years to get here; now we're working hard to finance the maintenance costs (boring, we know, but necessary to get the van out the door).

Join us - these wheels save lives, minimize pain, bring help and relief across the country.
