Dear Friends and Supporters,
The medical center we created in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Sofia – Fakulteta, was designed to help teenage first-time mothers from marginalized communities and their babies get access to healthcare. And although this is the center’s primary goal, we are always welcoming the toddlers living in the neighborhood. Those kids didn’t have (and still don’t have) access to healthcare and our mission is to let no kid behind.
I will share with you the story of one of our newest patients – the 7 years old Yana. Her parents are separated and since 2 years she is living in Sofia with her father and her grandfather. Not having her registration here, she doesn’t have appointed GP. The family is living below the poverty line and cannot afford paying for a private checkup so her father brough Yana to the center. After the examination, the pediatrician was concerned for her general development and made a list with doctors she will need to visit in the next months, such as psychologist, therapeutist and other specialists. This way Yana will go through the examinations she needs and receive the right treatment for her condition. Besides those medical checkups, Yana will continue going to the center every month so her development can be monitored.
This story shows the importance of having a medical center in the neighborhood. Because for kids like Yana there no other alternatives when it comes to healthcare.
We know there are so many good charities that will seek your help and you should know how honored we are when you choose to make a gift to our cause.
Thank you!
