Every day at Nature Kids of Siargao begins with something simple but essential: filling containers with safe drinking water.
Our SkyHydrant filtration system continues to operate quietly in the background of our community programs, providing clean water to children, families, and workers in Burgos, Siargao Island.
Turning Rainwater into Safe Drinking Water
Our system collects rainwater and stores it in a portable 2,000-liter drum before it passes through the SkyHydrant filtration unit. Because the system does not require electricity, it remains reliable even during frequent power interruptions on the island.
On average, we fill about 12 large containers of drinking water each day. Each container holds around 20 liters, meaning the system produces roughly 240 liters of safe drinking water daily.
This equals approximately 7,200 liters of clean water every month that can be shared with the community.
Supporting Children in Our Learning Spaces
One of the most important beneficiaries of this water system is our Kids Club learning space.
Here, hundreds of children gather throughout the year for tutorials, creative activities, and after-school programs. While they learn and play in a safe environment, they also have access to clean drinking water throughout the day.
For many children, this reliable source of filtered water helps reduce the health risks associated with unsafe drinking water.
Safe Water for Workers and Community Programs
The SkyHydrant system also supports several of our livelihood and environmental programs.
At A.T.E. Atelier, 14 women work together producing school uniforms, bags, and other products that support their families. Access to safe drinking water helps maintain a healthy and productive workspace.
Meanwhile, the team at the Siargao Recycling Art Studio performs physically demanding work transforming plastic waste into new materials and products. Clean drinking water is essential for their daily safety and wellbeing.
Reducing Plastic Waste Through Refill Systems
Another benefit of the water system is its role in reducing plastic waste.
Filtered water becomes a base component in our refillable household products program. Through Eco Siargao and local sari-sari store partners, families can refill everyday products such as dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent, and fabric conditioner.
By making refills accessible, we help reduce the widespread use of single-use plastic sachets, one of the biggest sources of plastic pollution in the Philippines.
Looking Ahead
This small but powerful system continues to protect the health of children, families, and workers while strengthening multiple community projects at once.
With continued support, we hope to expand safe water access even further and ensure that every child in our programs has clean water available every day.
Thank you for standing with us in creating healthier communities on Siargao Island.
With gratitude,
