Safe Water Amidst Summer Heat and Power Cuts

By Sanne Sevig | Founder

As we move deeper into the dry season here on Siargao Island, the reality of living with extreme heat and frequent power interruptions has never been more apparent. For many families, access to safe drinking water is once again becoming a daily struggle. Our refill station continues to respond to this urgent need—serving the community even when other suppliers cannot operate.

Thanks to the SkyHydrant system, which requires no electricity to function, we are still able to provide safe, drinking water throughout the week. Over the past months, we distributed a total of 21,000 liters to schools, households, and small business owners in Burgos.

Our efforts go beyond health—they also help the environment. By offering free water refills, we reduce the need for single-use plastic bottles. This clean water is also used as a base in many refillable products sold at Eco Shop & Café, another Nature Kids of Siargao project. In 2024, Eco Shop saved over 500 liters of plastic packaging by offering cleaning and hygiene products in refillable formats. Together, we’re building a cleaner, more sustainable Siargao.

We are especially proud to support teachers, who often shoulder the cost of drinking water for their classrooms. Free refills from our station ease this burden and ensure that students stay hydrated during long school days.

With more monthly donors, we hope to expand our reach to more schools in the area—places where access to clean drinking water should never be in question. Your ongoing support can help us make that vision a reality.

Thank you for believing in clean water for every child—and a cleaner Siargao for all.
