LIFE-SAVING SKILLS AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

In celebration of College Week, the College of Nursing of Foundation University reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence and community service through a meaningful and impactful initiative led by its Disaster Nursing Program and Community Extension Committee.

A Mass Hands-Only CPR Training was successfully conducted at the Yellow Court, North Campus. The activity gathered nursing scholars, university stakeholders, and community participants in a unified effort to promote life-saving knowledge and emergency preparedness.

The training was made possible through strong collaboration with key health and emergency response partners, including the Philippine Heart Association – Negros Oriental Chapter, the Philippine Red Cross – Negros Oriental Chapter, ONE RESCUE EMS, and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) of Negros Oriental. Their expertise ensured that participants received accurate, practical, and up-to-date instruction on hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Through this initiative, nursing scholars were not only recipients of knowledge but active facilitators of change. They demonstrated leadership and competence by assisting in the training and engaging directly with participants, reinforcing their role as future frontliners in healthcare and emergency response.

The activity equipped attendees with essential life-saving skills, emphasizing the critical importance of immediate intervention during cardiac emergencies. By increasing awareness and building confidence among participants, the program contributes to a more prepared, responsive, and resilient community.

Beyond technical skills, the initiative highlights the holistic development of Foundation University’s nursing scholars—combining academic training with real-world application and civic responsibility. It underscores the value of experiential learning in shaping compassionate, capable, and community-oriented healthcare professionals.

This effort directly supports several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by promoting life-saving health practices, SDG 4 (Quality Education) through skills-based learning, and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by strengthening community resilience and emergency preparedness.

Foundation University remains steadfast in its mission to develop nursing scholars who are not only academically proficient but also socially responsive and globally aware. Through initiatives such as this, the University continues to extend its impact beyond the classroom—empowering individuals, strengthening communities, and contributing to sustainable development.
