Twix and Malin, a Tale of Two Dogs:
Twix is a puppy that wasn’t supposed to enjoy life; he was born unwanted, like so many others, so the basic means for survival were taken away from him. His poor body was getting weaker and weaker as the days went by and his short life was about to end, without him ever knowing a thing about living. Twix hadn’t eaten for days when he was found dumped on a field.
Twix and 6 kittens were rescued and live together. They were all brought to life with a lot of care and good food that made their tiny bodies stronger and healthy again, ready to take on life. They all have found their voices and will to play and live, enjoying their childhood without feeling hungry all the time. Other 12 puppies rescued from the street from similar situation need good food to stay strong against the many deadly diseases still present in Romania.
Malin lived all her life on the street. Malin was always a quiet, calm dog who never bothered anyone; she used to live near a market place and everyday she had to look for scraps in order to survive. Some days she was lucky and found something to eat, others she was just kicked around and went back to hiding, hungry and scared.
One day she thought she found a good chunk of meat and she was happy thinking it was one of the good days; Malin ate all of it, but soon after she began feeling very sick. People were passing by while she was struggling in pain and confusion; she was poisoned and about to die slowly and horribly. She was found at the last minute and taken to the vet and luckily Malin survived. She has lived in the shelter for the past 4 years and although Malin never knew the safety of a real home, she doesn’t have to fight for food anymore.
Like Twix and Malin, the other 150 dogs were rescued from dangerous situations generated by indifference and cruelty. We struggle to keep all of them fed and healthy, because when we rescued them we made them a promise never to feel hunger and fear for their lives again. A full tummy is all the spoil a shelter dog can expect, sadly. We would like to keep them as spoiled as possible and make up for their tragic lives.
Romania Animal Rescue thanks you, our supporters, for helping us to help these animals and so many more like them with food. Your help saves lives. Thank you!
Anda Popescu is a veterinary technician for Romania Animal Rescue. She also runs Happy Paws shelter in Moreni, Romania. Happy Paws takes in many unwanted animals and provides them with food, water and love. We support Happy Paws with your donations of food for these animals. They also socialize dogs and send them for adoption. Here is the story of one of their recent arrivals. Meet Ellie: By Anda Popescu
Ellie is about 3 months old; she doesn’t remember much of her short life, just that one day she opened her eyes to this chaotic world, where big scary things moved around her and her tummy hurt all the time. She doesn’t remember her mother, just her warm belly, but once she was gone, there was nothing warm about the world Ellie was left in.
Ellie was scared all the time, scared and so hungry... she could pick out yummy smells in the air, but when she tried to get close to them, scary things happened; she learned that food is there, but not for unwanted puppies such as her.
Ellie doesn’t know what love is; love is for those who are born wanted, but she was an accident. People didn’t mean for her to be born, it was her mother’s fault, so both Ellie and her mother were punished to be forever hungry and unsafe. She doesn’t remember if she has any siblings, but she is now alone and she wondered the cold, wet streets alone for a long time...longer than Ellie can remember.
Ellie knows people can hurt her; small humans used to throw her around and kick her, so she would scream and amuse them. She tried to get away, but she was weak and her legs didn’t help much. She then cried so hard, hoping they would see she is just a small person, just like them, but they didn’t see it. Her tiny heart raced like crazy and she thought it would burst out of her chest with fear...they finally got bored and left her in a muddy puddle; she wasn’t amusing anymore.
Ellie can’t talk, but if she could, her words would probably break our hearts; so she keeps to herself, because dogs can endure much more than people can without complaining. She sleeps a lot, finally feeling safe in this new place she ended up, called a “dog shelter”. Scary people move around her, so she hides in her dog house, but they bring food and fresh water and talk gently to her. Ellie doesn’t know what love is...but she will learn.
Dear Friends and Supporters,
As you may know, Romania Animal Rescue supports Happy Paws charity in Moreni as best we can with donations for food for their shelter animals. These animals have had a hard life.....abandoned, hit by cars, unwanted. It is our honor to be able to help this charity in particular with their food needs. And it is very appreciated by these sweet souls who only want love and the basics of life: food, water, protection from the elements, and to live pain and parasite free.
I would like to share with you some photos of the animals that your donations allow us to feed.
Thank you for your donations of help and love.....
We wish you and your loved ones a wonderful holiday season!
