It was such a joy to visit the widows’ farms and see the incredible work they have done! Despite an unpredictable season with very little rainfall, we are grateful that the widows still managed to harvest food for their families. The crops looked healthy and promising, and the women were happy, energetic, and full of hope.
One of the most encouraging things we heard was that no one was complaining about children going to bed hungry. Some families still had maize from the previous year's harvest! You may wonder how they managed to keep it for so long. In our community, having dried maize stored in your home means having food. Maize is used to make ugali, our staple food, which is served in many households. Having maize in store provides families with food security and peace of mind, even during difficult seasons.
Growing Towards Sustainability
This year marks an important milestone for our programme. One group of widows will graduate from the programme, while a new group has already been identified and recruited. We are excited to welcome 30 new widows who will receive free farm inputs for the next three years.
As part of the programme, the widows are encouraged to save money every month. These savings help them prepare for the time when they will no longer receive free farm inputs. Through this approach, they learn the importance of saving, how to manage their resources, and how to plan for a more sustainable future.
Beyond growing food for their families, the widows are also learning how to preserve their harvest to ensure a steady food supply throughout the year. Any surplus can be sold to generate income for other household needs, helping them become more self-reliant.
Your Support Is Changing Lives!
We are deeply grateful for your continued support. You are doing more than helping widows grow crops; you are helping families stay together, protecting children from child labour, and keeping children in school.
Food insecurity can force families into desperate situations, sometimes leading to unnecessary family separation, child labour, and school dropout. By empowering widows to provide food for their families, you are helping prevent these challenges and giving children a better chance at a brighter future.
Every harvest represents more than food. It represents dignity, stability, hope, and the opportunity for families to thrive.
Help Us Reach More Widows
As we welcome 30 new widows into the programme, we invite you to help us spread the word about this life-changing work. Please share our story with your friends, family, churches, and networks.
Your voice can help us reach more people, grow our support, and extend this opportunity to more widows and their children.
Together, we can plant seeds of hope, strengthen families, and build a future where no child has to go to bed hungry.
Thank you for standing with us and being part of this journey. May God bless you abundantly for the difference you continue to make in the lives of these families.
