TO LOVE IS A COMMON VERB
Dear donor,
Hope you are doing well! Today I would like to speak about love; today I would like to ask you to help us in order to make our children feel loved.
Love is a common word; even if you don’t speak English you know this word, I’m sure.
Everyone loves someone else. We all do it in different ways. Love is an abstract concept which influences everyone’s actions in their day by day routine.
When you don’t receive enough love, you start to feel empty and then, probably, you get angry at the world and you live in a anesthetizing state of mind.
That’s what happened to Nazareth, dear donor.
Naza (as she likes to be called) is a new component of the family Puerta Abierta I.A.P. She arrived with us from Mexico city because the foster home where she was living had to close. No one wanted Naza; she has a difficult story dear donor. She has been beaten by her biological family, then she moved to a foster home and then to another and another… until she reached the number of eight fosters homes. Eight. Can you imagine that? Why are you asking? Why did she change so many places to live in ? Because she’s an aggressive girl, she needs love but can’t express that and can become really violent. People don’t like Naza. She appears bad and without feelings. She doesn’t look pretty and she always looks at you with a gaze full of hate.
Please Donor, don’t run away; please read about Naza and about what we need to help her.
As you already understood, we accepted her in our institution. You know that we believe that love and family can change life and you know that we fight every day so that our little girls can change their future through a good quality education together with our family. Yes, we accepted Naza because she’s like a little puppy which was beaten every single day of her life and we didn’t want her on a street without hope. So now she is with us and we have a hard work to do. She doesn’t trust anyone; she challenges us every time and seems to not care of anyone or anything. However, we know she just has a protective external layer in order to not suffer. She is just waiting for the moment in which she will be sent to another institution. But we don’t want to give up. We want to help her. We want her to feel love in her heart. We want her to be confident of people, we want her to smile, we want to persuade her that life can be happy.
But we need your help; we need your support in order to pay her school and the therapies she needs. Naza needs psychological attention all day with her in order to be focused on her school and her heart.
She needs us to construct her life. She deserves a future.
Dear donor, I know it is not so easy to get in touch with Naza but remember: you learned to love because someone else loved you. Naza learned to hate because they hated her.
Together we can change her future, so please help us.
We will tell you about her advances in the next months, I promise.
With all our love (see how easy it is for us to use this world?)
Puerta Abierta I.A.P.

Dearest Donor,
We just want to remind you that your donation is supporting the Quality Education of our Girls and that this means you are investing in a world with No Violence as Education is the best instrument to fight violence.
Keep supporting the Tree of Dreams of Puerta Abierta this December with your generous donation. We need you to join this cause. In our last report 3 days ago you saw a picture of how many bracelets our Tree has and we need more, as we want 5000 dreams to stop violence. So keep dreaming with our girls and with Puerta Abierta.
We want you all to thank you and Wish you the Best for 2017!
From the bottom of our heart,
The Girls of Puerta Abierta
Dear friends
How are you doing? We hope you are fine and happy, we hope you had a wonderful 2016!
Do you remember us? We are the board members of Puerta Abierta IAP, those who are dreaming, with you, of a better and more equal world.
That’s why we fight every single day together with you: we both strongly believe in the power of people’s solidarity, don’t we?
So my dear friend I want to tell you that we built a “Tree of Dreams”! are you excited? Now you are probably wondering, “what’s that? Is it a wooden tree?”.. yes, it’s a magical wooden tree, where people like you tie bracelets that we are selling all around Mexico to say and remind: STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN.
Yes, because in Mexico numbers are horrible: 60 out of 100 women are victims of some kind of violence, and 7 out of 10 children have been abused.
Where does violence come from? When I have no other means to modify my surrounding, I choose to modify the people that are in it; however, when I fail to do so, I try to control people by using violence and I let others control myself by receiving violence.
Today we want to ask you to help us, to choose your bracelets and to tie them to the “Tree of Dreams”. Your donations this December will help us, me and you, to change Mexico and all the rest of the world because we will be able to give our children the opportunity to keep on studying; education is the most powerful instrument to fight violence.
We need to educate our children in order to make them strong and able to dream a future different from the one full of abuse and fear that they suffered.
Dream with us like you always do; believe in children to change the world. All together we can make a huge difference. Donate this December so our girls keep up with their studies.
Every bracelet is different, each one has a different message: peace, love, well-being. Choose yours and be a part of this big challenge.
With all our hearts

PICNICS AND SOLIDARITY
Solidarity means constructing chains; human chains of love which can change the world.
I mean, this is what we think it means, it is not what the dictionary will tell you! We can say that is how we visualize this word in Puerta Abierta and how we visualize you, dear Donor. Because we feel that with your support for their education you’re holding our girl’s hands, thanks, we feel your presence always.
It is said that the most important thing in educating children is giving them the example through our behaviour; it is not easy at all to give a “ quality education“ to our children. Well, here in Puerta Abierta we want to thank you because we think that YOUR EXAMPLE of solidarity has taught our little girls to hold each other hands. They support each other, they love each other. You’ll be proud to know that Karla, one of our girls, is currently attending a school near Mexico City where she’s learning professional gastronomy. It is a big success for her, because just after having finished high school she had to pass a test to be accepted. As I mentioned, the others girls supported her emotionally. They really acted like family, which makes us extremely happy.
And now that Karla is there they can visit her once a month and… guess what? The last time they went they prepared her favourite sandwiches and had a beautiful picnic. I can imagine that what I’m telling you may seem a small thing but believe me that it’s a wonderful thing for these children; because to learn the solidarity of love, to accept to be part of a human chain of love, for children like ours who have been emotionally hurt, is a big challenge.
So dear Donor.. once again THANK YOU for being an example for our little girls: thanks to you they have a quality education, thanks to you they know what unconditional love and solidarity mean .
I hope you can join us for the next picnic with Karla ! You’re invited of course!!!
With all our love

Hi! My name is Belen! I’m 8 years old, I live in Puerta Abierta and I attend a bilingual school thanks to you! In our foster home they love me very much but I know that all the possibilities I have are because of you and your generosity !
Do you really have an idea of the big opportunity you are giving me? It is all possible because you believed in me and in the others girls living with me, careless of the fact that we passed through a very big “soul hurricane “. You’re so brave and so confident, and this is so because you are changing the world by believing in us, children.
I want to be honest with you, I didn’t write this letter all by myself! !! They helped me at school, but I promise you that soon I’ll be able to write you without making any mistakes.
Dear donors, PLEASE! Allow me to keep on studying in this bilingual college! My care keeper Lucy told me English is very important, therefore I‘d love to continue learning!
How can you help me? It’s really really easy! On June 15th Global Giving will organize a BONUS DAY matching the donations given to us! What do you have to do?
