Transforming Education with Interactive Science

The Mobile Science Lab (MSL) is an innovative instrument, revolutionizing rural education by bringing fun and interactive hands-on learning to remote schools. Equipped with over 100 science models, it raises awareness about the value of science education among disadvantaged children and teachers. MSL's teaching approach aligns with the National Curriculum Framework, covering Physics, Chemistry, and Biology for Classes 5 through 9. Its engaging demonstrations, not limited to the state syllabus, aim to spark curiosity and encourage questioning. MSLs effectively organize large science fairs and engage communities through night visits, enabling parents and community members to participate in beneficial learning sessions.

Program Highlights

Throughout October, November and December, a cumulative total of 147 hands-on school sessions were held, covering diverse topics such as Sound, Friction, Cell, Microscope, Combustion, Soil, Magic of Magnets, Electromagnetism, Human Body Parts, Art and Craft, Light and Mirror, Water, Light, Shadow, and Mirror, Combustion, and Respiration. This resulted in a collective student exposure of 4365.

The October Winter Camp, spanning 20 sessions, featured a wide range of activities, including Leadership and Talent Search Activities, as well as Indoor and Outdoor Games. This resulted in a total student exposure of 691, contributing to a rich and interactive learning experience.

9 Community Visits in this quarter showcased demonstrated models, including rope vision pipe, thread, coconut bottle brush atomizer, submarine, human body, human eye, and more.

December saw the hosting of a Science Fair spanning four days, providing 16 Young Instructors exposure. The event drew participation from 581 students, and 80 teachers attended the fair.

Young Instructor Training was also conducted in the months of October and December leading to 280 student exposure and 13 teacher exposure.

Special Programs and Events:

Founders Day Celebration

The Founders Day celebration was held at GHPS TC Halli and GHPS Jantha Colony on December 2, 2023. The program featured speeches, physics low-cost models, and a mini science fair. Mallappa’s instructor eloquently discussed the history of Founders Day, making it an enjoyable and informative event.

Maths Day Program

GMPS Gnjuru celebrated Ramanujan's birthday on December 23, 2023, with a math program. Students created low-cost math models, emphasizing the importance of math in daily life. Videos on Ramanujan's life and discoveries were shared, contributing to an engaging celebration that highlighted the significance of mathematics.

International Soil Day Program Report

NHS Muttanalluru School enthusiastically celebrated International World Soil Day. The event included educational workshops, a guest speaker session on soil science, interactive displays, a tree-planting activity, and art/essay competitions. The celebration successfully instilled environmental responsibility, fostering a deeper understanding of soil conservation and eco-friendly practices among students.

To Ensure Children Have Access To Science Learning

At the Science Center, hundreds of simple experiments and models are exhibited for school teachers and children in Science, Math, Ecology and Astronomy. They visit the center and are given the opportunity to interact with them. The centre acts as a resource centre, teacher training centre, and venue for special training activities like; project-based learning, discovery-based learning, integrated learning, Young Instructor Leader training, summer camps and science fairs. It is a space for children and teachers to perform experiments, and experience learning in a hands-on, interactive and positive environment.

Program Highlights:

In April and June, there were 76 school visits that resulted in 1,902 student exposures and 3 teacher exposures.
A community visit was conducted in Oragadam for 20 community children who were taught about Origami and the Effects of Heat in April.
A 13-day summer camp was held in May for the GHSS Ambattur students. The exercises involved origami, producing low-cost models, and creating scientific toys. The number of students exposed is 288 for boys and 655 for girls.
Between May 9 and May 20, there was a 12-day in-staff training for instructors of both SC and MIH. They received training in 3D printing, robotic arms, simple circuits, databots, maker education, simple circuits, and scamper.
Another summer camp spanning 8 days was organized in June for the students of GHSS Ambattur. The camp included engaging activities such as origami, leadership exercises, and indoor games. A total of 368 boys and 457 girls had the opportunity to participate and benefit from the camp.
Our instructors conducted 4 community visits in Oragadam, where they taught 184 children from the community about force and motion, as well as the law of motion.
We were delighted to welcome 20 volunteers from Societe Generale Global Solution (SGGS) to our science center. During their visit, they generously donated 15 laptops to GHSS Ambattur and interacted with 88 children, engaging them in the process of low-cost model-making.

Children Access To Experiential Science Education

The Lab-on-a-Bike(LoB) program is a variation of the Lab-in-a-Box (LIB) program where an Agastya instructor uses the LIB to conduct hands-on science classes in the schools. The instructor travels to different schools each day along with the LIB box which fits onto his bike. On completion of all the predefined schools, he starts his next cycle with the second box and so on.

Reaches out to 10 schools per rotation
Generate upto 10,000 exposures
Covers around 1000+ Unique Children per year.

Program Highlights:

56 face-to-face science sessions were conducted for school children which led to 3,925 student exposures and 143 teacher exposures.
SSA Upgraded HS Hiremanakatti in Shiggaon hosted a 2-day TTP for 61 teachers.
In January in Ron, K P S Musigeri School held a LIB training for students of grades 8 and 9. At Govt MCS Hirehal, six students from different schools even participated in the KBVP Science Quiz.
47 community visits were conducted at Tallihal, Krishnapura, Madalageri, Kothabal, Basalapur, Abbigeri, Kurahatti, Hunagundi, Jigalur, Savadi, Mugali, Mudenagudi, Mannur, Bachalapur, Jakkali, Hosalli, Mugali, Ganjikatti, Jakanakatti, Kamanahalli, Bannikoppa, Hanumarahalli, Bannur, Shivapura, Niralakatti, Hiremanakatti and Chandapur in both the villages of Ronand Shiggaon. 997 community children and 570 community members were sensitized on different important topics.

Topics covered: Astronomy, Brain, Light and Mirror, Circulatory System, Air, FamilyTaxonomy, Water, Pressure, Animal Tissues, Respiration, Body Movements, Magnetism, Acids, Bases and Salts, Electricity, Separation of Substances, Light and Shadow, Human Anatomy, Measurements, Motion of Earth and Electromagnetism.

Feedback:

The concept of light was taught in today's class by doing hands-on activities using different models like Deep well, Optickit, and One-object Eleven images. Agastya's teacher was so keen on making us experience each activity practically. I learned and the idea become very easy for me. ~ Student
