As a curiosity-driven Sociologist, my passion for understanding the mechanisms of society led me to pursue a Master's degree in Sociology and achieve significant milestones like clearing the NET and GATE (AIR 63) in Sociology. But beyond academics, my interests span a wide range, from teaching and enjoying music, dancing, and traveling to the thrill of learning new languages. With a strong belief in equity over equality, I have always been driven to bridge the gap for the underprivileged, seeking opportunities to put my beliefs into meaningful action.
It was during this search for ways to make a real impact that I stumbled upon the Teach for India Fellowship. What intrigued me was its unique vision of nurturing individuals into leaders, erasing the lines between a leader and a teacher. It offered a holistic approach to personal growth, making me believe that empowering these young minds could lead to a deeply rooted forest of change tomorrow.
Now, as a fellow, I find myself standing before 37 diverse students in Grade Six. Each child brings a unique set of educational experiences and challenges. However, this diversity only fuels my determination to design a Culture plan that fosters virtues like Courage, Collaboration, Resilience, and Excellence. From the first day, I strive to create a classroom environment that encourages curiosity and fosters a love for learning beyond memorization.
Though nervous and excited on the first day, I was met with warm acceptance from my students, making me feel right at home in my new role. My natural empathy enables me to understand each student and their background, motivating me to work tirelessly for their betterment. Every day, I witness the growth and transformation happening in my classroom, and it reaffirms my resolve to make the world a better place, one student at a time.
The journey continued with community visits during Summer School, where my co-fellows and I met the parents and families of our students. The love and trust they expressed in our efforts reassured me that I was on the right path in imagining and working for the welfare of the less fortunate. Despite facing challenges with the regional language, a parent's heartfelt request to stay and teach her child for the rest of the year validated my impact as a teacher and bolstered my confidence in my aspirations.
Teach for India has given me a platform to make a tangible difference in the lives of these children. It has reinforced my belief that education is the key to breaking the barriers of inequity. With unwavering commitment, I aim to empower my students to reach their full potential and become leaders in their own right. Each day, I witness my classroom's growth, fueling my passion to contribute to a brighter future.
Proudly a part of Teach for India, Cohort 2023, Chennai, I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute my skills and passion to this noble cause. My journey with Teach for India has transformed me as much as I aim to transform the lives of my students. Together, we are creating a brighter tomorrow; one empowered mind at a time.
