Challenges in Our Classrooms and How We Overcome!

Let's Enter Shekinah's Classroom! Our Fellow has shared her microinnovations in the classroom and how she overcomes daily challenges in the classroom!

Recognition Programs: One of the key components of my recognition program is the 'Dragon of the Day' title, awarded to students who demonstrate exemplary behavior, kindness, or resilience. This daily recognition not only celebrates their positive actions but also encourages a culture of support and motivation among peers. By highlighting these behaviors regularly, I aim to reinforce the values we cherish in our classroom community.

Team-Building Activities:  In my classroom, I have organized students into four groups, fostering collaboration and a sense of community. Teams earn points based on their participation, teamwork, and positive behavior throughout the week. The winning team is awarded the title of 'Team Leader’ for the following week, giving them the opportunity to take on leadership roles and responsibilities. This system not only encourages healthy competition but also strengthens relationships among students as they work together towards a common goal.

I regularly conduct group activities that promote collaboration, trust, and camaraderie among students. These interactive sessions not only enhance their learning experience but also encourage teamwork and communication. By engaging in collaborative projects and problem-solving tasks, students learn to rely on one another’s strengths, building a strong sense of community in the classroom.

Mindfulness Practices: In our classroom, we incorporate breathing exercises and meditation time, accompanied by calming background music. These activities help students cultivate resilience and focus, providing them with essential tools to manage stress and enhance their concentration. By integrating mindfulness into our daily routine, we create a peaceful environment that encourages emotional regulation and mental clarity, allowing students to be more present in their learning.

Challenges and How we Overcame Them

Diverse Learning Needs

I plan to conduct regular assessments to understand each student's unique strengths and challenges. To address these diverse learning needs, I will be starting a special class from Monday, where I can provide targeted support and enrichment activities. By differentiating instruction and offering tailored guidance, I aim to ensure that all students receive the help they need to thrive.

Classroom Management

To maintain a positive learning environment, I will establish clear expectations and consequences from the outset. Additionally, I will implement engaging activities that keep students focused and involved, reducing disruptions.

Addressing Educational Inequality

I plan to actively engage with the community to understand the external factors affecting my students’ education. By collaborating with families, I aim to create additional support systems that address these inequalities.

Student Motivation

To foster intrinsic motivation, I will incorporate student interests into lessons and provide choices in their learning activities. Recognizing and celebrating achievements through programs like 'Dragon of the Day' will also help keep students engaged.
