Our Project Manager, Rosanna Debernardi, together with some of our volunteer has just come back from Aleimar’s last visit in Colombia for the project Estufas for displaced families.

In the last months Aleimar has focused its efforts in improving families’ conditions and their domestic situations.

Miserable domestic conditions and house degradation make family life very difficult in particular for children. Thus, is really important to help families getting out from poverty and regaining their own dignity.

In these years Aleimar has achieved helping lot of families providing some implants and facilities that have improved their lifestyle.

It’s time now to bring to an end our action but we are satisfied with having helped some people reaching a decent standard of living. Aleimar is now reinvesting its resources in new projects willing to give hope to other people.

It’s with deep gratitude, that Aleimar express its greatest thanks to all our donors!

We really hope that you will keep on supporting our mission.

The Estufas project wants to improve the housing conditions of the Bogotà families. At the beginning were provided some estufas (a kitchen with oven and stove) and some pots, then the intervention has also planned the purchase of some appliances. Moreover, in the face of an emergency situation, small renovations are planned to create the most dignified environment in which to live. This is the case of David’s house! The accommodation conditions were truly disastrous and it wasn’t possible to intervene in a radical way because you can’t define the owner’s land. Thanks to the generous donations you give us, we were able to redo the roof and at least it will not rain inside the shack anymore! Our local collaborator, Luis, after fixing the roof, asked us to authorize to redo the facade: the results, as you can see from the photos, are amazing! And finally Davide smiled!

In February, our project leaders, Rosanna and Andrea, will go as usual to Colombia: they will be able to see in person the great results achieved and identify new families in extreme difficulty.

We are almost at the end of the year and we take this opportunity to thank all our supporters for every precious help given! We wish you a peaceful and happy Christmas!

The housing condition remains one of the main problems of this country: most of the population lives in precarious shacks, built with wood and other recycled materials, without water, sanitation and sewerage. Often old mattresses, blankets, a small field oven and some black pot are the only things that can be found inside the "homes". Bad conditions and space promiscuity make family life so difficult and increase the risk of neglect on children.

The project leaders Andrea and Rosanna tell us that in these months basic goods have been deployed to the poorest families and other estufas or general household appliances will be installed soon. Our local referrals, Luis and Myriam, continued their visits to the Bogota, Santa Ines and Juan Rey districts in order to identify the most urgent needs and interventions to be made by the end of the year.

It is always excited to receive good news from families already supported: for example, thanks to the new laudry, the Sara’s  family has totally improved their own hygiene and, consequences, the condition of life. In fact, the home is for us the fundamental way to radically help a family get out of poverty.

In the end, we exult together with the Colombians who in the night between 24 and 25 August have gone all over Colombia in a triumph of dances, songs and prayers for the agreement reached in Havana between the government and Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc). Colombian people will be called on October to choose whether to continue living in a nation in war or turn towards peace. "Si, se puede!" is the cry that resonates every time.

A great job is waiting for these, peace can not be decided by a signature, should be built day by day!

A new laundry for Laura's family!

On the occasion of the recent trip to Bogotá, our project managers Rosanna and Andrea updated us on the improvements to the lives of some families supported by Aleimar.  Thanks to donations collected, for example, little Sara's family has received a laundry and we delivered an oven to Yurani's parents.

During the visit, Rosanna and Andrea, realizing that families did not need only an estufas to improve their living conditions, wrote a list of the priorities for interventions to be made within the year. Specifically, we intend to replace the obsolete appliances and renovate the homes, in order to guarantee children and their families a worthy place to live in.

In this perspective it is thought to close the project "Estufas for Dispaced families" by the end of 2017 and to replace it with a different program aimed at improving the general housing conditions of many families in difficulty.

Thank you very much for our donations and we hope you will continue to support us in the future!

Our project leaders, Rosanna and Andrea, are currently in Colombia, travelling around the different projects and sending us backups.

They were part of the allotment of new estufas, and took part of the joy of the families whose everyday life is going to change, now that winter is coming up.

Furthermore, they could also visit the projects involving the sponsoring of children, getting in direct contact with them.

Finally, the GlobalGiving accountable of Colombia, Maria Acevedo, shared a part of their journey in Bogotá, and could see how the works were proceeding.

We wish them a safe continuation and all the best!
