Tharani
Tharani

It’s a heart-wrenching story of Tharani, who is a fifth grade student at the Cuddalore Isha Vidhya school. Tharani’s father was a alcoholic, who spent all his meagre earnings in drinking, and was neglecting his family completely. Tharani’s mother was deeply frustrated with his habit, and tried her level best to change his habit but in vain. Eventually, Tharani’s father became frustrated of his own state and committed suicide by hanging himself. Tharani’s family was in the streets with no hope.

Isha Vidhya team came to know about Tharani’s family, and reached out to them to support Tharani’s education through scholarship. Now, Tharani’s education is fully taken care of by Isha Vidhya. Tharani’s mother is relieved that Tharani’s education is taken care, and now focusing on taking care of the family.

Isha Vidhya is striving to support several such families like Tharani’s by educating the children. Currently, 2184 girl children are under sponsorships at Isha Vidhya schools. With the addition of a new school in the coming academic year (June 2019), there will be addition of more girl children to the list.

We need your constant and continuous support for this. The great news is that Globalgiving is matching the first instalment of a newly started recurring monthly donation till December 31st, up to maximum instalment cap of $200. The best way for you to participate in this important effort is to start a recurring donation now at the following link:

Surekha studying at Cuddalore Isha Vidhya School
Surekha studying at Cuddalore Isha Vidhya School

Surekha was a student at a local English medium school where she had not been provided with a education sponsorship. Surekha’s father is a agricultural labourer, and his job does not provide a regular income. With single, unpredictable income for the family, Surekha’s father was not able to pay school fees for his daughter. So, he decided to admit Surekha in a government school in the 4th grade.

When Surekha’s father came to know how Isha Vidhya is providing education sponsorships to children from a poor background, he came to the Cuddalore Isha Vidhya school. The school assessed his eligibility for education sponsorship for his daughter, and found her family background to be suitable to allocate a sponsorship. Surekha was admitted to the 6th grade.

Now Surekha is a happy student at Isha Vidhya. Her father is free of any financial worry about his daughter’s education. Surekha is now getting free, quality education at Cuddalore Isha Vidhya school!

We thank you for all you did to support girl children sponsorships at Isha Vidhya!

Did you know that Globalgiving matches your first recurring donation 100% if you start one fresh right now? You might want to make use of this opportunity to make a difference in a child’s life, either be it education sponsorship, noon meal, or safe transportation!

Preethi, a sponsorship student at Cuddalore school
Preethi, a sponsorship student at Cuddalore school

Preethi comes from a big, but underprivileged family of five people. Her father is the sole breadwinner with a monthly earning of INR 6,000. Her mother is a homemaker, and her younger brother and her sister are the students in the same Isha Vidhya Cuddalore school. Preethi’s dream is to become a medical doctor, but she realizes that her family income won’t be sufficient for pursuing higher studies.

Amidst all these hardships, the teachers claim that she is a friendly child and an obedient one. Her parents are also pretty enthusiastic about her dream. They believe that she will change their fate and consider her as a ray of hope and joy for the family.  We thank our donors with whose support hundreds of children like Preethi are getting the quality education through sponsorships to pursue their dreams!

We thank you for your support for this project, and look forward for your continued support!

Kanimozhi
Kanimozhi

Kanimozhi lost her father when she was a small child. Even when Kanimozhi’s father was alive, he suffered from a heart issue, because of which he could not find a regular job.  A lot of money was borrowed and spent on his medical expenses.  When he passed away, the family was left with nothing but debt. Kanimozhi’s mother was forced to work as a daily wage laborer, which was not a steady job.

When Isha Vidhya found Kanimozhi’s family in such a dire state, they offered to sponsor full scholarships to both Kanimozhi and her younger sister (who is now in the 4th grade).

Both Kanimozhi and her sister are now joyful students at the Cuddalore Isha Vidhya school. Both of them enjoy the noon meals which are served every day at school.

As you are aware, Isha Vidhya, a project of Isha Education, provides quality English-medium education to underprivileged rural children in India, in areas where they do not have access to it or are not able to afford it. Isha Vidhya’s unique approach to education incorporates methodologies that make it easy for a rural child to pick up English and excel in their other subjects. Isha Vidhya makes the rural student ready to face the world with whatever dreams they are aspiring for, be it higher studies or a fulfilling career!

Isha Vidhya provides education sponsorships, a nutritious noon meal, as well as safe transportation to the students as part of the initiative. The holistic and well-rounded curriculum also includes arts & crafts, environmental education, sports, yoga, and field trips!

We invite you and your friends to be a part of this initiative, which is completing its 13th year soon. Isha Vidhya is participating in the world-renowned fundraising platform Globalgiving’s Giving Tuesday campaign, in which the first monthly recurring donation not only gets a 100% match, but also makes Isha Vidhya eligible towards more matching money and bonus prizes!

Dhanalakshmi of Cuddalore Isha Vidhya School
Dhanalakshmi of Cuddalore Isha Vidhya School

Story of Dhanalakshmi (Cuddalore Isha Vidhya School)

Dhanalakshmi is a lively and bright girl of 6th grade
from a very rural background. Life posed challenges
to Dhanalakshmi, because both her parents are dwarf.
Nobody is willing to give work to them because of their
disability. Sometimes they work as farm laborers in other
people’s fields during the harvest season. They reside
with their extended family whose income is just INR 5000.

Dhanalakshmi understands her responsibility towards her
parents. It seemed amazing to us that even in such a
difficult situation, she has not forgotten to smile. Fortunately,
she got enrolled in our school and got a full education
scholarship. She likes our mid-day meals very much.
Dhanalakshmi says "I like the Dal rice. It is tasty!" It melted
our hearts to hear that the only food she eats at the school
is her favorite food.

Talking about her dream, she says, "I draw inspiration from
my teachers and aspire to be one in the future." It is indeed
a fact that food and the education are the primary motivators
that brings her to the school. We are really indebted to our
donors who are changing the lives of hundreds of rural children
like Dhanalakshmi.

Want to make a difference in a rural student’s
(like Dhanalakshmi’s) life? You can start a monthly recurring
donation for a small amount. The amount accumulated will be
used against noon-meal, transportation and/or sponsorship of
education! Here is the link to start:

https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/empower-india-girl-students-through-education/?show=recurring

We thank you for all you did for helping an India rural child
get education, and we look forward for your continued support!

Thanks & Best Regards.
