# ECONOMIC INDEPENDENCE WITH A PURPOSE

The youth and women in our society are in need of livelihood options. However, most often they do not have the means to get the required skillsets for the same, more often than not, limiting their options.
Karigari helps to improve the status of women / Youth in society by providing them with livelihood options through vocational training in the areas, based on beneficiaries’ preferences and aptitude.
Creating opportunities
The opportunities are created in the following manner:
What makes Karigari unique:
- Complete program is free of charge, with all equipment and raw material provided by Literacy India
- The beneficiaries are exposed to real life workshops/ centre where the work is happening
- The involvement of Literacy India does not end with training. There are regular visits by coordinators to help the beneficiaries get jobs/ start their own enterprise.

Socio-economic impact of ICT-based initiatives for youth
There is strong evidence of positive outcomes for ICT inclusion, associated with ICT based initiatives in rural and urban area. These project initiatives attract more participation, and promote their educational, social and community-engagement. ICT empowers Youth for better employment options. Its benefits include:
Name: Ram Daya (Name Changed) Location: Rajashthan
Ram Daya is a 25 years old young man, running his E-Mitra cum mobile repairing center successfully in Manoharthana. He belongs to village Madan pura in Manoharthana block. His is living happily with his family.
Life was not so simple for Ram. After his school education, he wanted to pursue higher education but there were no college near Manoharthana. He shifted to Kota for studies. He had to pull cycle rickshaw to earn his expenses in Kota. After completing his graduation, he returned to Manoharthana. He borrowed some money and opened a mobile repairing shop but were not able to earn in absence of knowledge in computers.
He borrowed a friend’s computer but after some time his friend took back his computer, which resulted in Ram loosing most of his income. Dayaram had to arrange a system but do not had enough money to purchase the same. Few months later, he came in contact of Literacy India. He took up a course in Computer Application.
After completion of course, Ram Daya expressed that he wants to start mobile repairing cum software installation & E- Mitra Seva based services center for the community in Manoharthana.. He identified the location, space and arranged financial support from family to start the business. Literacy India provided him with a computer and related accessories at minimal cost to set up KIOSK. His business is in complete operation now and facilitates the rural masses initiative of the State Government. He is earning 300 to 350/ day.
