Enabling & Training Youth for developing skill

Youth and women in our society are in immense need of livelihood opportunities, however most often they are not found capable to acquire a required skill for the same, hence limits their decisions.

Our Karigari Program helps to improve the status of Women / Youth in the society by providing them with livelihood opportunities through vocational training in the areas based on beneficiaries’ preferences and aptitude.

Computer literacy offered at our centres allows beneficiaries to build careers in IT related fields like BPO Centres, Data Processing Units and lately in UID centres etc. especially in the cities like Delhi, Gurgaon & Kolkata, hence creating entrepreneurs.

Stitching, Embroidery, Beauty Culture, Block Printing, Tie & Die etc enables beneficiaries to get employment in the garment industry or set up their own stitching and tailoring units.

Vocational training in driving encourages beneficiaries to build careers as drivers in the automobile, transport and travel industry or seek self-employment as professional drivers.

Community based skills like kitchen gardening, and organic farming empowers people to sustain themselves in their community.

The opportunities created in the following manner:

  • Step 1: Conducted survey of the area and identified beneficiaries
  • Step 2: Assessed the skills/ trainings that would benefit them most
  • Step 3: Set up and installation of equipment and machines
  • Step 4: Invited beneficiaries for an orientation session
  • Step 5: Regular ongoing training till completion of the program as per the module
  • Step 6: Workshop on business development and motivational sessions
  • Step 7: Support to set up business models and provide ongoing support to sustain the business

 How Karigari stands different:

  • Entire program was free of cost, with all equipment’s and raw materials
  • Beneficiaries are exposed to real life workshops at the centre
  • Literacy India involvement doesn’t end with only training the beneficiaries but regular visits are made by coordinators to help them get jobs and start their own enterprise.
  • We work closely with rural and urban youth; similarly, we also work across both formally trained as well as school dropout segments. This has provided us with a very good understanding of wants, needs and challenges of the youth segment with respect to skill development.

Mobile Repairing Vocational Training:

Literacy India aims to prepare learners to be as good as the best vocational skill practitioners. Along with theoretical Sessions, practical approach, audio & video learning methodology contributes majorly towards preparing skilled professionals.

 Benefits of the methodology adopted:

  • Faculty explains concepts with live demonstrations thereby helping learners to understand the concepts and methods in a better way
  • Students perform and observe practical demonstrations as many times as they wish which provides them a lot of confident which enable to perform actual practical training much better.
  • Course was divided into 8 modules covering most of the knowledge needs to acquire in skill training.

STORY OF CHANGE

SON OF SCRAP DEALER REALISES HIS DREAM TO BECOME AN ENTREPRENEUR

Name : Maan singh ( Name Changed) Age : 20

Twenty years old Maan Singh (changed name), a son of scrap dealer lives in the area of Neb Sarai with his family. Earning from father was never enough for feeding the family of 6 members; therefore, he started supporting his father since VI class but never had an interest in the same business nor in academics but inclined towards the technical field. His interest in repairing Mobile phones was much before he started training and he would engage in mending old telephones, which helped in building his aptitude.

Maan Singh failed in IX class and was unable to gather the courage to pursue his education further although he wanted to practice his passion but never got an opportunity for the same due to financial constraints.

Literacy India believes in providing skill training to such youth and help them acquire training in developing skill, in their field of interest to make them self-sustain in the community. Maan Singh got himself enrolled in the six months Mobile repairing training course at project location New Delhi. He regularly attended classes and made himself proficient in the field. On completion of training, he now aims to open Literacy India will provide his shop and support.

He thanks Literacy India for giving him the courage and confidence to succeed.
