We are currently running a Vita Center located in the metropolitan area where we fill out the federal tax forms and the child tax credit to all the people who need it, for free with the help of more than 15 volunteers. At the same time, we continue providing training and advising non-profit organizations and developing our AFC PreCheck, an evaluation instrument that allows us to have an x-ray of the organizations so they can see the specific need to attend to achieve a sound administration.
Definitely, it is thanks to you that we can do all this without stopping.
During this semester our internship program AFU, has succeeded in placing four accounting students in non-profit organization around the island. We have placed four students in non-profit organizations in the cities of Ponce, San Juan, Caguas, and San German. And served directly and indirectly over 5,600 people. This translates into great economic relive for the organizations, valued in around $3,400 during this time span for the administrative area. The students have worked with programs such as quickbooks and sage, financial statements, time sheets, payrolls among other things related to the field of accounting. Thanks to your help we can keep going.
Thanks,
The AFC Team
Last Friday, August 12, we celebrated the First Summit of Non-Profit Organizations at the Verdanza Hotel. More than 2,000 local and international participants gathered with the sole purpose of connecting and strengthening the relationships in the sector through the development of alliances. On the event we had a variety of sessions there were Latin-Americans NPO tell their success stories, Estudios Tecnicos present relevant studies for the sector, the Resident Commissioner Hon. Jenniffer Gonzalez present a variety of funds for the nonprofits, the Foundation Panel talked about what they will be funding, and we end with structured dynamic of networking to promote the alliances in the sector. Without a doubt, an event that we will have again in 2023.
We are running one of the IRS Vita Centers in Puerto Rico. There we guide people so that they can complete their federal return and obtain the Child Tax Credit. Which became available in Puerto Rico this year with the American Rescue Plan Act. At the same time, the CTC increased to $3,000 for each eligible dependent between 6 and 17 years of age, and to $3,600 for each eligible dependent 5 years of age or younger. This tax credit will be of great benefit to our country where the poverty rate exceeds 45%. Also the provision of this service will cause greatest impact because in the future this person can prepared their own and their communities tax return.
Thanks for helping those who help!
This year has brought many challenges; however we have achieved many things and among these is:
With this new year we hope to finalize our strategic planning process, add a module about program evaluation, celebrate our 15th anniversary and above all continue improving our services in the Educational Program, Technical Assistance Program, AFU (our internship) and AFC Precheck all directed to strengthen the NPOs in Puerto Rico.
We are counting on you!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, The AFC Team wishes you
