Since our last update, donor funds were used to purchase and distribute much-needed chicken food. One year since its inception, the egg laying hen program in Matenwa, Haiti continues to thrive. The generous people of Matenwa have begun distributing eggs to hungry people in neighboring towns. Located on the remote island of La Gonave, Matenwa's residents have been malnourished for generations.
Because traveling to the island’s one hospital is so difficult, it is critical that the residents of La Gonave, especially the children, have enough protein in their bodies. Without enough protein, children struggle to fight a number of diseases that continue to plague Haiti, especially water-borne disease.
Protein-energy malnutrition is endemic in La Gonave. It is easy to spot children suffering from this particular kind of undernourishment since many of the children display the classic signs - a distended belly and skinny arms and legs. Happily, many of the children attending LKM school in the village of Matenwa are growing stronger. With your generous support, we will continue our efforts to help feed the kind citizens of La Gonave, Haiti.
Thank you so much.
