Educational Sponsorship for 120 Children - India

Greetings from IDEA Foundation. 

I am delighted to share with you the story of Priya, a little girl from rural Maharastra. In her community, children often have to drop out of school to look after themselves and younger siblings. So they learn to look after younger siblings, fetch water for the family, collecting firewoods, washing clothes and dishes at a very early age. 

Priya is 9 years old and she belongs to a migrant community. Her family moved from Dhule district to Bhor, in search of a job in a sugar factory. Both her parents have to work in the factory to earn enough to provide food for their 4 children.  Priya is the eldest child and so she has to shoulder the responsibilities of her younger siblings who are just  6 , 3 and 2 years old. So for Priya attending school was not at all possible.

This little girl was loaded with many house hold chores too. She works hard and happily does her duties entrusted to her by her parents. Her parents had taken admission for her in a school in Dhule but she could not attend mainly because she couldn’t leave her younger siblings even for a short while. On meeting her at their community our special educator Mr. Prafull understood that she likes going to school. We have decided to give her special consideration. Mr. Prafull counselled her parents about the importance of educating their children and convinced them that their daughter can bring her siblings also to school. We have decided to give her all educational support and provided snacks & mid-day meal, school uniforms, school bag and other stationary items required. Now Priya is attending school regularly and is studying in standard 3.

Priya’s parents are very happy with this arrangement for their children as they know the children are safe in the school. They have promised us that they will educate their children even if they have to move to different places in search of work. There are many such Priyas in rural Maharashtra where they do not have opportunity for education. In our mission to give opportunities to underprivileged children for education and development we have come far ahead than we have expected. Each and every success story is a milestone for us and we want to thank each one of you for making this possible for us.

 Greetings from IDEA foundation!!

IDEA sponsorship program is a great help to many children who cannot afford education. At present we have approximately 275 children under sponsorship. We are grateful to all our sponsors for touching the lives of these children and making a positive impact in their future. 

19 year old Vaisali(name changed) hails from a very poor family in Pune. She lost her mother to a long term sickness when she was hardly 9 years old. Her loving father did not remarry as for him everything was his 2 children.  He does not have a permanent job, but works as building contractor for daily wages whenever work is available. But his wages are not sufficient to support his children’s education and other expenses.

Vaisali realized her father’s struggle at an early age and she has decided to shoulder a lot of responsibility for her family. She is a second year under graduate student. She attends college in the morning and goes for a part time job in a shop in the afternoon.  When she gets home, she not only has her homework but also the upkeep of her family. She does all the cleaning, cooking and all other housework.She takes care of her younger brother also.  She is a role model for many children who are ready work hard to achieve their dreams even in adverse conditions. Despite of her added responsibilities, she scored good marks in her first year exam.  She also finds some time to  participate in sports and extra-curricular activities conducted in her college.

Realizing her potential and need, IDEA is sponsoring her education for last 7 years. Like many other students under our sponsorship, Vaisali also has big dreams and she is determined to achieve them.  After graduation she hopes to complete post graduation and eventually get a good job to support her family. Vaisali and her father are thankful to IDEA for the support we are providing for her education.

IDEA is fortunate to be able to support such sincere and hard working children. We are thankful to all those who are sponsoring our children, without your support it would not have been possible for us.
