RURAL WOMEN EMPOWEMENT NETWORK(RWEN) - EASTERN UGANDA

FEBRUARY 2018 REPORT FOR CHILDREN - Orphans and other Vulnerable Children

The general performance of our children at the end of last year 2017 was promising. More than three quarters of our children were promoted to the next level of learning .

At this level, we feed all these children and provide uniforms and scholastics materials.

The children are active and healthy for the food is contributed by members of each of the groups .

Feeding at School.

We provide children of primary, secondary with mid-day meals

Feeding at Home

The child headed families and very needy children are provided with food to feed at home.

Scholastic materials.

Children have been provided with scholastic materials from the funds through River fund in early January .

Uniforms

The children were provided with uniforms, sandals and some shoes at the beginning of this year

Top up Fees.

We have already provided fees top up at all levels where needed.

Health care

Our children are kept healthy.

Through long term survival skills , the women who have been trained and others who are untrained have been helped by the trained one to take care of their children

There has been great improvement in our children in their way of life, good feeding, good treatment and health care.
The HIV/AIDS children are well informed of their status, they often get counseling from time to time, no stress, no self stigmatization at all.
Our children have improved in appearance and self esteem, they dress in uniform at school and get uniform and all scholastics materials on time

Challenges .

We might fail to get food for our children next term because drought has been long since last year in November to date
Lack of transport to reach the HIV/AIDS children and the child headed families

Suggestions

We suggest that the relief food scheme be continued to provide food to the children and families where they come from as in late June last year.

The drought is still continuing and most of our crops have dried up again

Closure

We are grateful to our friends of the River Fund and our donors who work day and night for Africa more especially Uganda.

Food for home

November report for 6000+UC/ORPHANS 2017

This report covers children from four different groups. Thus Bugiri, RWEN, Tororo and Amonikakinei

Suggestions

General performance of the children is average, because our children feed at home and at school, we pray that the system continues.

Nursery

Our children in this section are active and healthy.

Feeding at school

Each of the four groups contribute food for children to have mid day meals.

Feeding at home.

The OVCs are provided with food to feed at home.

Child headed families also get some assistance of food for supper and weekends.

Those near the centres feed at school

Scholastic materials

If we get funds.

We are looking forward to providing materials.

Uniform:

All children OVCs will be provided with uniforms when funds from our donors are realized.

Fees top up

Are always provided for OVCs and if funds realized for 2017 it will be the same.

Health

Our children keep healthy as they practice the long term survival skills e.g. balanced diet, clean towel, clean compound at their homes and at school.

Counseling and guidance is provided for both boys and girls.

Health kits training is done for girls.

HIV/AIDS, Children

These children are self aware of themselves no stress and no stigma.

Our counselors always reach their homes.

Each group of the four take of these children and make sure that they go for their septrins or ARVs.

Challenges

Hardship in getting drugs for the HIV/AID positive children due to lack of transport.

Child headed families need extra care by their mother groups from where they originate.

Developments

From late June our children are feeding well because there is a great improvement in performance at their respective places of learning our children are smart because they put, on uniform from funds provided by our donors through River Fund.

Suggestions

If funds realized in time, scholastic materials should be provided immediately after Christmas.

Transport for, HIV/AIDs positive living children to go for their drugs and exchange visits to other groups to see how they leave.

Child headed families (children) caused by HIV/AIDs need shelter. Some of them are desperate.

Centres should be formed to maintain day care for OVC for healthy and strong children.

We are sure performance will improve by the end of this term because children can feed at school and at home
Feeding at home;
Our children can eat food at home because the care takers have been supplied with posho and beans
Feeding at school;
Our children are now feeding at school

Health

Children’s health has greatly improved. The HIV/AIDS infected have proper drug management because now they have food and take drugs freely

OVC (Orphans and Vulnerable Children) care

Life is now better for child headed homes. The relief supply has helped a lot because they are covered with the food.

Improvements

Our children are becoming strong and healthy because they get meals at home and at school

HIV/AIDS

These children that are HIV/AIDS are now better because they freely take drugs-septrine/ARVs because they have food to eat

Challenges

The rain is not much and we are worried of next term of children’s learning and food mighty is little in the nearest future.

Developments

We can now see strong and healthy children willingly going to school and very happy children feeding at school and at home.

Suggestions

• If the funds would be realized, the relief food programme would continues
• Day care centers should be introduced in the catchment areas of the communities so that there is continuous care of the young ones.
