Please note that Uganda has been in lock down since March 18 and as of today, no schools have yet opened. Our goal at this time is to see that the students we support do not starve.
The River Fund transferred emergency funds to our projects in Eastern Uganda. We realized that due to the Covid 19 total lockdown in the country that our very rural project members were hungry and without running water or electricity. W
I received the report from the leaders the very needy received food 10kg posho only. At least 2 members from the group went to pay for food at the food store then the beneficiaries went on their own and signed or ticket by the seller having been given the list by the group leader. We also provided medicine to those who most needed it.
The report comprises four groups of children from the four groups of women.

EDUCATION
Each group of the four groups has to ensure that every school going age of children go to school, the child’s learning in a particular level, every child should get education.
PERFORMANCE
The performance of our children our children last year 2019 was promising most of our children were promoted to different next levels of learning.
Even one child we have at the university during December semester his results were promising he is getting on well.
FEEDING CHILDREN AT SCHOOL
We received money last December through River Fund and we managed to buy food for our children. They get break and get lunch of posho and beans
Feeding children at their homes
The children who are very needy are provided with posho and beans to feed at home for their sapper and weekends. The needy include the child headed families and those who stay with very old widows.
CHILD HEADED FAMILIES
These are provided with food always because this is the only way they can survive. They can take care of themselves and they are always visited by the councilors to confront.
SCHOLASTIC MATERIALS AND UNIFORMS
It is the duty of every group to buy and provide scholastic materials and uniforms to every child in every group.
We have not yet provided scholastic materials and uniforms for 2020 because we are short of funds when we realize funds we shall embark on these two items.
FEES TOP UP
We top up fees to the very needy OVC whenever there is need for it and sometimes where very needy we pay full fee, like one at Mbale University is directly paid for by Riverfund, this is great.
REFARALS
We always follow up the needs of our children and make sure they are secured where need be we referral them to PEFO technical for simple trainings like hair dressing tailoring and brick laying for boys.
CENTER SCHOOLS
Some groups have created center schools; which help to feed needy children and get education and help on child’s day.
CHILD’S DAY
On this day the children come together in a particular group like Bugiri, RWEN, Tororo, Amonikakaine children converge together eat together do different plays MDD, Sometimes football or netball. Here children learn to share with their friends and get friends.
CARE FOR OVC/ HEALTH/HIV
We make sure our children keep healthy feed them well, they get counselling by the trained counsellors trained in long term survival skills/ HIV AIDS.
Those with the virus we make sure they get drugs and take them in time as advised by their doctors.
SCHOOL DROP OUT
Some of our girls drop out of school due to different reasons best known by themselves. We follow up and counsel them and guide them to the right way give them simple training as referred to the organization like PEFO for simple training like hair dressing and tailoring.
CHALLENGES
We have not yet provided scholastic materials and uniforms for this 2020 because we have lacked funds.
There is a big problem a head of us, we received continuous rain last year and the yield of our crops was not good and food may be very expensive to buy for our children next term two of learning
DEVELOPMENTS
Our children learning was good last year and our children are back at school
We have food for the whole of this term one.
SUGGESTION
We suggest that if we had transport/ children should visit other places to meet their friends to learn and explore more.
If funds are realized then we can buy uniforms and scholastic materials this year and if possible also fees top up.
God bless you all.
