One day we were in school, and the next day, everyone shift to online education. We mean, parents, students, teachers. In Mexico, many persons who comes from all walks of life, they didn´t the same technology or support at home.

For us, the shift to online education has meant rethinking lesson plans to fit a different format, so you can teach it online, because a lot of it was dependent on you being there and leading the students through certain things. Some students were more hesitant to ask for help online, too.

Now, we are in classrooms, but, they haven't seen each other in a long time, and so they're much shyer about saying: Wait a minute, I don't understand what you said.

Parents, teachers and students agree that time management has been one of the biggest challenges of distance learning—one that also presents an opportunity for students to practice a crucial life skill.

Now all the peple knows what fragil is our economy, our learning and our destiny...

We are re-starting the learning method with some positive variants

The goverment decision to close the schools/institutes was rational to keep social distancing to stop Coronavirus. Some of them switched to online learning immediately because they were already prepared for online learning. We observed that many schools used the Blackboard tool for distance education and taught some elective and general courses.

The transition to online learning was the only option during the situation’s gravity because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

We notice that there are some advantages and disadvantages of online learning; the accessibility of online education, saving time, money, and efforts are advantages of online learning. In teaching, the lecture’s recording is one advantage of online learning when students ask teachers to record the classes. The teachers were reviewing and preparing well for recording, students could access the lectures anytime and could understand better. Not all learners had good internet connectivity. Some learners suffered from network problems, lacking high-quality learning devices

We learned that we are not experts in online pedagogy, so we spent time taking coursework, studying online learning and creating an online learning environment for teaching. In order to approach our experience, we recommend:

  1. Subscribe to a video conferencing platform like Zoom, GoToMeeting, or WebEx (your institution might have a subscription already),
  2. Schedule regular class meetings and email your students with instructions about how to log onto the virtual classroom and when live sessions will be held, and
  3. Familiarize yourself with the tools of the video conferencing environment so you can:

(a) ensure your audio works so students can hear you,

(b) share your screen so students can see you or your presentation, and

(c) chat with students online so you can address their questions.

Finally, Students were positive to the effectiveness of online learning during this pandemic. They paid attention to several factors in the field. They find that use educational technology in teaching and learning was appropriate.

Into this new mode of teaching  -on line- meant that we went into it with little preparation. Lack of appropriate materials and resources, technical problems, and lack of internet facilities and constant power cuts were some of the challenges that all teachers faced during their virtual classes. Also, teachers discovered that students don’t actively engage as much as they do in a real classroom.

Teachers who were unfamiliar with the use of technology had to struggle with tools such as videoconferencing, prepare presentations and learn to be tech-savvy together with their regular teaching job.  For shyer kids, this environment is ideal. Online classes made those who are more withdrawn open and forthcoming with participation.

Our Teachers make use of various tools like discussions, quizzes, presentations, activities, and projects to encourage active participation. Being friendly and communicative establishes understanding with the students. It makes a Teacher more approachable. Setting aside time for pleasant chats and problem solving, calling on every student in the class from time to time and being flexible regarding the submission deadline and giving space for lapses helps to build a relationship of trust and camaraderie with students.

Nothing works better for a child than personal attention from the teacher who then becomes a person rather than just a voice behind the screen.

The pandemic has hit all places in Mexico, but its impact has been harshest on those communities which were already vulnerable, who are more exposed to the disease, less likely to have access to quality health care services and more likely to experience adverse consequences.

The pandemic is far from over and the response is at a critical phase. We think that we should start newly. We know public education continue workng in june, we expect preventing the next one by building a healthier, safer and fairer environmental health.

In the meantime, we continue teaching on line. The students are tired of it. However we should recognized that our students are advancing their learning.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic, was showing that in Mexico, only 44.3 percent of households have computer equipment and only 56.4 percent have an Internet connection. In rural areas, the figures are considerably lower: 20.6 percent and 23.4 percent of households have a computer and an internet connection, respectively,

However, we took the actual situation as a challenge. The face-to-face learning experience is an expirence:

  1. Most of the online assessments are limited to questions that are only objective in nature.
  2. There is also the problem of the extent of security of online learning programs.
  3. The authenticity of a particular student's work is also a problem as online just about anyone can do a project rather than the actual student itself.
  4. The assessments that are computer marked generally have a tendency of being only knowledge-based and not necessarily practicality-based.

So, we took the initiative that provide online classes to all students who required it, it was not easy many people distrust this type of learning and are not willing to accept it.

There was no other way and we followed it. We are trying to get our people to adapt to the new way of learning. It is difficult to convince those who do not believe in technology. That is the reason why our online culture is low.

We try to continue working in a smart way, involving parents and teachers
