In 2017—Cycle for Survival’s 11th season—thanks to donors like you (!), we raised a record-breaking $34 million for rare cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK)! We cannot thank you and TripAdvisor enough for helping to make this possible.
This year more than 30,000 participants and over 210,000 donors came together to fight back against rare cancers in 16 cities nationwide including: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Palo Alto, Seattle, Dallas, Chicago, Washington D.C., Bethesda, Boston, Miami, Summit, Paramus, Greenwich, South Bay, Huntington Beach and New York City.
We have raised over $140 million through our 11 years of rides, with every single dollar—100%—going directly to rare cancer research led by MSK. We look forward to sharing more about the projects you help fund and the transformative research that will be made possible thanks to the $34 million raised this year! In the meantime, here is a research breakthrough that you and the entire Cycle for Survival community made possible:
Testing a New Chemotherapy Delivery Method for Highly Recurrent Ovarian Cancer
Ovarian, fallopian tube, and primary peritoneal cancer
The Battle: For women with recurrent ovarian cancer, the cancer tends to return more and more frequently over time despite additional chemotherapy.
Cycle for Survival funded... A clinical trial to test if adding heated chemotherapy (HIPEC) at the time of surgery (for recurrent ovarian cancer), followed by standard chemotherapy post-surgery, yields better results than standard chemotherapy alone.
And now... Researchers have been able to safely give the chemotherapy at the time of surgery. They will continue to enroll patients on the trial, further evaluating HIPEC effectiveness, and determine if patients can live cancer-free for longer periods of time.
Together we are revolutionizing the way cancer is diagnosed and treated. Together, we will beat rare cancers!
Thank you for continuing to fight with us.
