Challenge

More than half of all people diagnosed with cancer are fighting a rare form of the disease. Well-known cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma and melanoma are all rare, as are many others including pediatric, brain, pancreatic, ovarian, thyroid, and stomach cancers. These cancers receive fewer research dollars than more common forms of the disease. This means that treatment options available for patients are severely limited. Cycle for Survival aims to fill this funding this gap.

Solution

Cycle for Survival funds vital rare cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and 100% of dollars raised goes directly to the cause. Funds from Cycle for Survival are allocated to the most promising projects with the greatest potential impact on rare cancers. Importantly, all funds are allocated within six months of the events. This dramatically reduces the time it takes for new treatments to reach patients. To date, the event has funded 85 clinical trials and research studies.

Long-Term Impact

Cycle for Survival is directly leading to improved understanding of rare cancers, and new treatment options for patients nationwide. Clinical trials funded by Cycle for Survival enroll patients from across the country and the research findings are changing the way physicians everywhere can treat these rare cancers.
