Covid 19 is a new enemy in Malawi that threatens these poor people. The rate of contagiousness is very high and the healthcare facilities are certainly not up to par with those of Italy or the rest of Europe. The government has issued decrees and restrictions; people have seen businesses and schools suddenly shut down and are struggling to understand the danger that looms with the danger of aggravating the situation.
In addition to the health emergency, many families have to fight hunger: for all the children we support with the "A Kindergarten to grow up" project, closing schools means no longer receiving breakfast and lunch in the canteen that for most of them it was the only meal of the day. Fortunately, the harvest has been good this year, but despite this, many families are unable to guarantee enough food for their children.
In this situation of extreme instability, we immediately took action: thanks to Father Kimu and Marina, our local contact, we are distributing masks and bags of corn to the families in difficulty. The physiotherapy program for disabled children has been suspended, but Marina immediately started working with the volunteers of the Tyende Pamozi group to organize meetings and spread the correct information on the emergency and promoting awareness-raising in the various villages.
The children and girls who attend our centers are more than 2,500 and we need at least 500 bags of corn to help the families of our projects and thus guarantee a meal for our children. We are trying to tackle this emergency with the utmost commitment, but now more than ever I need your help to protect our children from Covid-19 and hunger! For us in Aleimar, children are the first people to be protected!
