No room for technophobes now!

Dear Donors,

Greetings from IDEA foundation!

The use of computers has become a way of life everywhere, and in developing countries like India, it has become a necessity. It has become the foundation for a progressive and developing nation. As we move towards global change, it has become mandatory for everyone or at least one person from each family to learn basic computer skills. A decade ago, we didn’t realize that we will be technology dependent as of today, schools or colleges didn’t enforce computer education. As a result, many adults are left with technophobia, and they are completely clueless on how to deal with the new processes, which will actually make their life easier.

Keeping this in mind, Government of India  has started NDLM (National digital literacy mission) for supporting computer education among the poor. IDEA Foundation is running 3 NDLM centers at present, teaching basic computer skills to youth and women from underprivileged background. We are trying to bridge the gap between rich and the poor by giving them exposure to the modern world through the internet. These computer courses are designed to equip themselves with the knowledge necessary to use computers and mobile phones in their day to day life.  We are also running vocational training programs for women from the underprivileged background. Many women who have completed our beautician course or tailoring course have also joined NDLM centers and finding it really helpful to enhance their business and skills. It also boosts their confidence once they come out of their technophobia.

Many women are getting benefited from our NDLM course. For example, 56-year-old Lata ( Name changed)  is running a laundry shop with her husband in Pune. She could not continue her schooling after 9th as education wasn’t a priority for girls in her community. She was a skeptic when she joined our NDLM course. After completion of our course, she is able to use the computer for payment of electricity and telephone bills. It saves a lot of time and she doesn’t have to leave her shop to make her payments. She can also do online booking for tickets and some shopping too with ease. She has a son and she searches information for further studies for him. She is thankful to IDEA Foundation for enabling her to do things which she would never have dreamt.

Thank you, dear donors, for supporting us. Every contribution you make will enable us to empower individuals who need help the most.
