Greetings from IDEA Foundation!!
Hello friends, it always brings us great joy to share our Digital Literacy success stories and this time we have two success stories to share with you. Digital Literacy course is specially designed to bridge the knowledge gap between the underprivileged and the affluent. In this day and age digital literacy is an absolute necessity for everyone, in order to get ahead in life. IDEA’s digital literacy course is designed for everyone, from children to adults and from students to homemakers.
The first story is a different one as we always talk about the success of our students and their achievements but today we want to share with you the success story of one of our project co-ordinators – Sheela. Sheela is a hard working lady who has been leading IDEA’s Digital Literacy course since past 2 years. She supervises and coordinates the working of IDEA’s many Digital Literacy centers. Another important role she plays is that of enrolling children and women from a slum and tribal communities for the course. As knowledge of computers and internet has become a prerequisite in order to apply for jobs and colleges, Sheela goes to the communities, talks to the children, their parents, and teachers explaining the same. Sometimes they take time to get convinced. Sheela recently visited a High school in Kothrud to explain that they should encourage their students to enroll for the course. She explained to them how important it has become that students in 9th and 10th grade learn computers and know how to use the internet as soon they will be applying to colleges and the entire application and admission process is compulsorily online. If they don’t start now these children will lag behind and will definitely miss getting into good colleges and without the knowledge of internet, they may have to take help of middlemen who will charge a lot while IDEA’s course is government approved and for free. The school was convinced and so far more than 15 students from class 10th have enrolled for the course, all thanks to Sheela.
The next story will tug at your heart. Sandhya is a middle-aged woman living in one of the slum communities where IDEA runs an Digital literacy center. Sandhya is a widow and has 2 children and their entire responsibility rests on her shoulders. She herself left studies after 10th grade but wants her children to study and to carve a good life for themselves. She joined the course as she felt that digital knowledge will make her more employable and her life a little easier. Sandhya now has successfully finished the basic part of her course and is easily able to pay all her bills online, searches for jobs online, can make a video call through Skype and even indulges in online shopping! Sandhya says she definitely feels more self-assured and confident now. Of course, we couldn’t be happier and wish her well for her future!
Dear donors, it is because of your generosity that these women and children are clicking their way to success. Please continue with your support and wishes! Thank you!
