School again!

And then Principal Lutsishin, having completing the rounds of his realm – that is, having walked around all the units of Complex No 1465 after the celebratory assembly in the main building – tells us: “See, everything worked out, and you had doubts!”

We? Doubts? Sure, we had doubts. Because, as one English philosopher said, “If a man will begin with certainties, he shall end in doubts; but if he will be content to begin with doubts, he shall end in certainties”.

Actually, inclusion has probably one flaw – it is hard to present in the form of photographs. Okay, so here’s a classroom, and here are some kids sitting at their desks, everything is so ordinary – every desk has a textbook and a notebook on it, or maybe even a bouquet of flowers and a balloon sometimes, but that’s rare. Or here’s the school assembly – so many kids; white dress shirts, ties, blue jackets. Where’s the adventure? Where’s the feat? The feat and the adventure are behind the scenes. And if you do not notice anything special in the scene – it means that the inclusion was successful…

This year, the Center for Autism Problems and School No 1465, with the support of the always-cheerful Galchonok Foundation, have opened third educational (public school) platform already.

A platform that will provide inclusion for children who, off the record, had nothing good going for them just two years ago.

For Platosha, today is the third September 1st (and it is still a mixture of happy anxiety and some surprise – so, silent boy, you’re going to school? And the silent boy replies with a clear “yes!”).

But I spent some time talking to the mothers of novices today. How can I explain this? This state when your child, who is an ANTI-schoolchild by any definition, is standing in line at the school assembly, carrying flowers, entering a classroom, and pushing his classmates aside to be the first to give the flowers to the teacher – how can I explain this state?

Imagine that suddenly somebody put back the rug that had been pulled from under your feet. You have to float there in a cloud of absolute despair for a very long time, and then suddenly just put both your feet on the ground, back here, in the commonness, the bustle, the war for pencil boxes, the fuss with blue vests, the PTA meeting, and the plain asters, to understand what a real Victory Day is like. Help us as best you can, please. If only with a word of encouragement.

Lots of love,

Galchonok foundation
