The assistance garnered for the repair and rebuilding of homes for communities devastated by Typhoon Rai (known as Super Typhoon Odette in the Philippines) in December 2021 has partially supported psychosocial activities for children and disaster management trainings in Iloilo.
It may not have reached its aim but has greatly impacted the lives of those reached just the same.
Psychosocial activities such as drawing and fun games helped a total of 25 children connect with other children and draw simple lessons on disaster preparedness.
Technical support provided during trainings on community-based disaster management (CBDM) has increased manyfold when more community instructors were trained on CBDM and disaster preparedness committees (DPCs) were formed.
Typhoons and other hazards will always threaten to demolish countless houses, but a more prepared population is key to building resilient communities.
