The overall objective of the proposed assistance is to alleviate the sufferings of Typhoon Odette affected families in San Joaquin, Southern Iloilo. This project will provide shelter repair assistance to 177 families in San Joaquin, Balabago Philippines. The identified beneficiaries were based on the result of damage needs capacity assessment (DNCA) on Typhoon Rai conducted by the Panay Center for Disaster Response (PCDR).
TYPHOON ODETTE (international name: Rai) swept through the Western Visayas region the last 16-17th of December 2021, after leaving millions worth of damage in the Eastern and Central portions of Visayas Islands. The main livelihood is small-scale fisherfolks and farmers. the estimated loss to agriculture and fisheries is at least 15.1 million pesos. For instance in Barangay Balibago in San Joaquin, the BDRRMC has recorded more than 290 families affected with 177 totally and partially damaged.
CDRC with its local partner PCDR is planning to provide Shelter repair kits for 177 Households with orientation on Shelter kit Guidelines whose houses were destroyed and partially damaged by the typhoon causing them uninhabitable. This is to support them to have a safe, protect them the bad weather conditions, and give protection to children, girls, and women. Disaster Management Orientation will give them knowledge on what they need to do before, during, and after the events.
The recovery assistance will help to improve the physical safety and security of these affected families specially girls, children, PWDs, women, and seniors. The provisions of Shelter repair assistance, orientation on the Shelter guidelines using the template by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and conducting Disaster Management Orientation will help the 177 families to lessen their vulnerability and improve their situation after the devastation of Typhoon Odette.
