In September 2021 BBK participated in the GlobalGiving Accelerator to raise funds to build classrooms at our rescue centre Mother’s Vision, Kenya and we were blown away by the generosity of so many of you.
In January 2022, BBK provided an update to GlobalGiving on the progress we had made in working with our trusted leader, Susan at Mother's Vision rescue centre out in Kenya.
Since our last report, team leader Susan fell very sick and was hospitalised for many months, followed by surgery. We are absolutely heartbroken to tell you that our dear Susan died at the end of April 2022.
Susan devoted her life to caring for the desperately needy women and children who entered Mother's Vision rescue centre.
Susan showed nothing but compassion and love for all those around her. She touched the lives of many and will never be forgotten, may she rest in peace.
Mother's Vision continues to run under the supervision of Demaris and Lucy, and children continue to be cared for in the best possible way.
Many new children have entered the centre including three children, all under five years old, who came to the centre one night, brought by the police. They had witnessed their father killing their mother and the police taking their father to jail.
Another child was abandoned in hospital after a severe beating. This child was welcomed too. These are harsh reminders that Mother's Vision is a haven for such children.
Mother’s Vision Rescue Centre is doing all it can to raise funds by sponsorship in Kenya and through BBK and has raised £15,000 towards the cost. Official plans have been drawn and we need to raise another £15,000 for the building and then extra for the furnishings.
The team is working hard to plan our 'Out of Africa' charity fundraiser Black Tie Event on 17th September 2022 to raise this extra money. We are currently seeking businesses who would like to sponsor the event, donate auction prizes, and of course attendees for the evening! A spectacular event is on the cards, that’s for sure!
Should we succeed with our joint fundraising efforts, Mother’s Vision rescue centre has enough room for two classrooms.
This will provide a kindergarten in the day for the children at the centre and children in the very poor surrounding area. It will also be an adult education centre in the evening, especially for women to learn how to make a living. The small amount of income produced by the classrooms will be an enormous help to Mother’s Vision's survival.
