Do you think everybody should be given a chance at education no matter their circumstances? We do too. This project looks to empower and educate the children living in extreme poverty Barani, Kenya. BBK has established a strong connection with local school teacher Betty, who helps to provide uniforms and shoes, as well as reusable sanitary towels and underwear to the high school girls. BBK encourages you to help us in this wonderful opportunity to provide for those in need. Thank you.
The education system in Kenya faces many challenges such as gender disparity, insufficient learning materials, lack of teachers, and accessible schools. Many Kenyans live below the poverty line, are unskilled, and uneducated, and view education as a luxury however BBK acknowledges fundamental skills are an absolute necessity to all. SDG Goal 4 'Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all'
BBK recognises the underlying factors of poor education and seeks to provide the children's basic needs from an early age. To attend a local school in Kenya, every child must wear a uniform. This is impossible for many families. BBK provides funds to purchase a uniform and shoes, giving the children a chance at an education. In conjunction, 60% of menstruating girls cannot afford menstrual pads. This burden leads to many girls missing school every month. We help by providing reusable pads.
Providing an education - When a child is born into an impoverished family, they enter the first phase of a long and challenging cycle that can run for generations. Providing an education helps to find employment and can be lifted out of the poverty cycle. Period Poverty - Providing reusable pads provides girls with a basic need, avoids detrimental health impacts through makeshift pads, allows girls to attend school, and avoids financial and environment burdens.
