Since January 2026, Proyecto Mayu has continued its mission of providing free, specialized healthcare to remote regions of Venezuela, staffed by medical and dental students. This trimester, we returned to Adícora, Falcón, a community we hadn't visited in six years.
Returning to Adícora in April was powerful. Many familiar faces were waiting for us. Some of the children we had treated had grown, and some patients were managing chronic conditions with the tools we had provided years ago. This is what sustained impact looks like: relationships that endure, health trajectories that shift over time, and a community that remembers.
During our visit, we offered the following medical and dental specialties: internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, dermatology, clinical laboratory science, psychiatry, psychology, pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, and general dentistry. We delivered 2,847 consultations to 658 patients.
Beyond clinical care, 353 community members directly benefited from our educational workshops, gaining practical knowledge to support their long-term health.
We also collected 397 blood samples for our new research on lipid profiles and Lipoprotein(a) levels in rural Venezuelan populations, generating epidemiological data that will inform cardiovascular disease prevention strategies throughout the region.
As we build momentum toward 2026, we're energized by the path ahead. Our upcoming missions, including preparations for La Marroquina in Yaracuy, demonstrate our dedication to expanding our reach and deepening our impact. This work is made possible through the support and partnership of GlobalGiving and our collaborators. With your help, we continue to transform the lives of Venezuelans in need by providing quality care to those who need it most. As we prepare for the missions ahead, we remain deeply grateful for your unwavering support and for being part of our journey.
