Project Mayu aims to establish itself as the definitive hub for medical and dental care in rural Venezuelan communities. Its primary mission is tackling healthcare disparities in areas with limited access, emphasizing disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Moreover, the project offers university students a chance for growth and learning by working alongside experienced healthcare professionals, conducting research, and improving the communities' well-being.
In Venezuela, the healthcare system is grappling with a dire crisis due to the country's ongoing economic turmoil; impacting the healthcare infrastructure, medical supplies, and personnel.This dire situation affects all segments of the population, yet the most vulnerable are children, the elderly, and those with chronic conditions.This project is crucial as it seeks to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the healthcare crisis, and offering learning opportunities for university students.
Through medical-educational interventions in rural communities in Venezuela, Mayu seeks to address health starting from a preventive perspective, through educational talks to the population and medical-dental procedures such as screening for common pathologies and preventative treatment. Likewise, we intervene in existing diseases through timely diagnoses and the provision of treatments for this. These interventions are carried out in conjunction with medical and dental professionals.
The implementation of a medical-educational community intervention in rural communities generates a positive impact on the populations served, by: 1. Reducing preventable pathologies such as STDs, dental cavities, diarrhea among others and their consequences. 2. Decreasing the prevalence of pre-existing treatable diseases and control of chronic diseases. 3. Reducing unplanned pregnancies of women of reproductive age. 4. Multifocal impact on the population through education on health issues.
