From October through December, Proyecto Mayu marked a powerful conclusion to a monumental year, our 10th anniversary. Rather than words, this milestone was defined by decisive action, as our teams delivered comprehensive care to the remote community of Apostaderos and returned to the familiar and welcoming shores of Chuspa. Most significantly, this trimester saw us reach a historic peak: 15,000 patients treated over the past decade.
In October, Proyecto Mayu reached a new milestone, crossing the sea to Nueva Esparta. During an intense 80-hour mission, our team delivered 2,263 consultations to 612 residents in Apostaderos and hard-to-reach areas like Las Salinas, Macanao, and La Asunción. These services spanned 10 distinct specialties, including pediatrics, gynecology, oral surgery, psychiatry, internal medicine, bioanalysis, dentistry, dermatology, ophthalmology, and otorhinolaryngology.
Clinical observations in Apostaderos reveal hypertension as the primary adult concern and allergic rhinitis as the leading pediatric diagnosis. Additionally, widespread dental issues highlight a critical need for restorative care and hygiene education
Our visit to Apostaderos also symbolizes a pivotal transition for Proyecto Mayu. For the first time in our 10-year history, we provided 400 patients with free hematology exams and lipid profile screening as part of our new research initiative, which focuses on analyzing lipid profiles, specifically Lipoprotein(a), within rural Venezuelan communities. This achievement embodies our commitment to generating valuable epidemiological data and deepening our model of comprehensive cardiovascular care.
Our final mission of the year took place in the coastal community of Chuspa, La Guaira. By providing 1,398 consultations across 10 specialties, ranging from internal medicine, pediatrics, OB-GYN, endocrinology, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, psychology, to oral surgery, general dentistry and pediatric dentistry; we treated a total of 515 patients. Returning to recurring communities is deeply fulfilling; beyond the privilege of monitoring the evolution of long-term treatments, we witnessed the tangible growth of our footprint. This year, we achieved a 16.5% increase in patient reach (+73 people) and an 8% rise in total consultations (+104) compared to our previous visit.
We also brought back our Heart Program, which brings care right to the patient’s door. By visiting them at home and providing necessary medications, we help keep chronic conditions in check. The results show it’s working: 80% and 66.6% of our patients are hitting their health targets, proving that making care easy to access really does save lives.
As we reflect on a decade of impact, these final missions stand as a testament of the sustained compassion that defines our journey .Now, that same energy fuels our path toward 2026, our biggest year yet. The future is bright, and we’re just getting started.
