Continuing with our work around the Venezuelan territory, this March we visited the community of La Macanilla, located in los LLanos region of Apure state. It was our first time in this community, yet they had not received any medical or dental care for more than 5 years. During our visit, we provided specialized consultations to 572 people, performing a total of 1,680 consultations in 40 work hours.
On this occasion we had specialists in pediatrics, internal medicine, gynecology and obstetrics, psychiatry, dermatology, pediatric dentistry and dental surgery, with a total of 8 doctors, 3 dentists and 32 student volunteers. Attending this community for the first time was a great challenge; it took more than 7 hours of travel from Caracas; making it a community closer to Colombia than our capital. Nevertheless it was worth it, for they are part of one of the most neglected regions of the country. Therefore, it was truly gratifying for us to be able to bring medical help to such a needy population.
From indigenous people to farmers, they were able to be examined, diagnosed and managed to receive treatment for the different diseases they presented. Among them, the diagnoses of: high blood pressure, intestinal parasitosis, dental caries, seborrheic dermatitis, pityriasis versicolor and gingivitis stand out.
Now, we are que planning a visit to our next destination. This June we are returning to
La Marroquina. This community has benefited from the collaborative efforts of Proyecto Mayu and Chamos. In the last 3 years we have consistently visited La Marroquina, and we have been able to measure the great impact our project has on a community with continuous visits. We are excited to continue furthering our help in a community so dear to us.
Once again, we express our gratitude to all those who help us through this platform, since it is thanks to you that we can achieve this great impact on the Venezuelan population, and continue growing to become a reference organization at a national level regarding healthcare. Thank you for being and doing Mayu with us!
