We are glad to share updates via GlobalGiving on SIMA Classroom’s growth and progress over the last few months.
As the school year starts up, educators across the US are utilizing SIMA Classroom films and resources to impart global competency skills in their students through the power of documentary film to “take you there”. Thanks in large part to your contributions, SIMA Classroom has been rolled out to 42 schools within The College-Ready Promise coalition. That’s 945 educators and 17,682 students in at-need schools now benefitting from global education through the power of film!
During the educators’ summer ‘break’, we at SIMA have been busy improving our web platform, digital welcome kits, and film resources in preparation for the new school year. We also rolled out a digital newsletter to keep our community up to date! Now as we enter the Fall, we are getting ready for SIMA Awards season and selecting the best, most current impact films to join the SIMA Classroom collection. We can’t wait to share the next round of SIMA films!
We received some fantastic feedback on SIMA Classroom from a California-based educator, M. Bernstein: “From a teacher’s point of view, I couldn’t have asked for a more engaging process. I’ve never seen a class so motivated and inspired… The conversations about the films and the subjects didn’t stop when they left my classroom. They continued throughout each student’s life and crossed over into other classes. Seeing this impact is absolutely inspiring as an educator. It helped strengthen their studentship skills, broaden their perspectives, enlightened them, and educated them in various subjects. Collaborating with SIMA helped inspire my students to become responsible, global citizens who are now motivated to get involved.”
We are also excited to announce that through a new partnership with Ashoka Changemaker Schools, we are looking forward to provide 3-year SIMA Classroom access to 254 Schools (84 US, 170 International) in 2017! Ashoka Changemaker Schools are a natural fit for SIMA Classroom, aiming to inspire empathy in today’s youth.
