Dear supporter and advocate,
We have some thoroughly exciting announcements for the sanitary pad project at New Light in Kolkata, India.
The name says it all: The women have chosen the name MUKTA for the sanitary pad company, which is Sanskrit for liberation, release, freedom - all that we hope for the vulnerable women who manufacture the pad, and the countless at-risk girls who will be using the pad. The pad represents freedom to go to school - freedom to work - release from using reusable, unhygienic cloth pads - freedom to use a pad that is cost-effective, comfortable and biodegradable - liberation for the many girls who felt embarrassment, shame and uncertainty when they have their period. For the women manufacturers - freedom and dignity to earn a respectable salary and health insurance.
How you have helped: Your generous and thoughtful donation is going a long way. For every subscription of $10.00 per month, Mukta pads will be purchased for 8 at-risk girls, pads manufactured by the women-owned enterprise. With your support, vulnerable girls will be able to attend school when they menstruate, rather than missing 5 days per month for fear of embarrassment.
Heartfelt thank you: The Empowering Women Period program is another step closer to enabling countless women and young girls to handle periods safely and hygienically, all thanks to donors and advocates like you. We are very grateful for your support.
