Scholarships in Mexico after the earthquakes

The proposal presented by the Oaxaca Community Foundation to be part of the Global Giving platform is part of a broader program called Community Scholarships, which seeks to prevent school dropouts of young people, Oaxacan men and women, in vulnerable situations. In particular, our proposal focused on one of the municipalities that were affected by the September 2017 earthquakes in the Oaxacan Isthmus region. In this municipality, Asunción Ixtaltepec, 54 scholarship recipients, who are in high school, are currently in the program.

All of the scholarship holders of this municipality have up to now maintained excellent school grades and are doing activities that impact their community or their own school. For example, there are proposals from young people regarding the care of the environment through the recycling of garbage that is generated in their own school; There is also a proposal to care for plants and fruit trees for their subsequent consumption. With these proposals, we generate a link between young people with problems that they can identify in their community.

Currently, young people are in the middle of the school year, so the support they require is still extremely important in order to complete their studies and, if necessary, continue their academic progress.
