We cannot thank you enough for supporting our young women leaders! Because of you, over 100 young women have participated in our programs this summer and gained the confidence, mentorship, and the skills they need to meet their goals and improve their communities!
In July, 30 girls from Y-WE Speak performed their final piece Wisdom from the Wild Self at the Seattle Rep to a full house after a week of incredible storytelling, rehearsal, and community building. Juli, a Y-WE Speak Mom, sums up the magic our young women built that week:
"I wish I had the money to give you more than the full tuition price because Y-WE is a life changer and you all have worked miracles in my girls' lives!"
On our most recent outdoor adventure we lead a crew of to the North Cascades Institute with The Mountaineers. Y-WE girls and mentors explored the beauty of the mountains and learned about glaciers and fire ecology.
This August over 40 young women and 20 mentors are at the Whidbey Institue for our Y-WE Write summer camp! They are learning from 4 amazing Hedgebrook writers. The young writers are passionately telling their stories and advocating for themselves and their communities.
Many of our young women have gotten career development internships as a result of the professional connections they have made at Y-WE. One of our young leaders, Zoya, got an internship with politician and activist Pramila Jayapal who is currently running for Congress. Zoya says, "Because I was empowered at Y-WE, I had the tenacity to reach for my dream and ask to be Miss Jayapal's intern. My big dream for my future is to advocate for immigrant reform as a politician and because of Y-WE, I am now working for one of my mentors, speaking for hundreds of people, and taking real steps toward my ultimate dream."
Zoya and two other young Y-WE leaders--Aisha and Maria--just had the amazing opportunity to meet with Senator Murray. The grils passionately advocated for Y-WE's empoweremnt programs and the importance of supporting diverse young women's voices.
Thanks to donors like you Y-WE girls are thriving this summer. They are living up to their power and potential and they are creating a better world for us all. Thank YOU for believing in our young women leaders!
