Wow, what an incredible program season it has been for Y-WE! This May we concluded our 4th annual school-year programs--graduating over 75 young women leaders. These young women will return to Y-WE next fall as interns, facilitators in training, and mentors for the next cohort of leaders! Thank you for making our programs possible. Here's what our young women say the gained from Y-WE this year:
-I started to speak up for what I believe in.
-I was more involved my school work.
-I met and got emails of professional women who can mentor me in my career.
-I learned more about business and non-profit management.
-I became the leader I wanted to be.
Our alumni interns also completed their year of service to Y-WE. They spent their year mentoring other girls, planning Y-WE events, learning about the inner workings of our organization, and helping to shape our curriculum. Here are their exciting next steps:
-Douinya will be attending her dream college in Hawaii after working hard with her Y-WE mentors to apply and taking all her prerequisites in Seattle. She was determined to get into this school, and though it took her 2 rounds of applications--she NEVER gave up!
-Amina successfully completed her 2nd year at PLU and is studying business. She will be returning to Y-WE as a mentor this summer and fall and is continuing to work hard toward her degree!
-Amy is studying business finance at UW and is determined to land her dream job at Starbucks. She has connected with Y-WE Career Day speakers from Starbucks and will hopefully be granted an internship in the near future.
-Rahwa is heavily into medical studies and is on her way to being a nurse.
-Michelle is pursing film, design, and graphics through Evergreen State College and is currently working hard to complete a brand new promo video for Y-WE!
All of these amazing young stars continue to call Y-WE their “family” and their “home. They are committed to paying forward the education, support, and leadership development that they gained through Y-WE to the next generation of Y-WE girls. As Rahwa says, “This is the first project in my life that I’ve helped grow from a seed…and now it’s an amazing tree! More girls keep coming, more mentors keep coming, we are blooming--and I helped make that possible!” We are so proud of all our interns and of our organization, which is founded by and for the young women we serve!
