New normality: working with children and families

LEARNING MOSAICS PROGRAM LEVEL 1 AND 2

During the execution of this program, the children and families assisted had a series of telephone sessions that allowed them to follow up the therapeutic work even at a distance.

Based on the above, throughout the first week of work, the educators opened spaces for reflection and awareness where the participating children learned the importance of essential aspects that involve them such as the rights and obligations of children, values as well as the analysis of verbal and non-verbal language related to the expression of emotions.

On the other hand, during the following week, some support and school reinforcement activities were carried out for the children of each group, with which all participants had the opportunity to exercise their logical-mathematical skills using operations (addition, subtraction, mental arithmetic, etc.).

In addition, other sessions in which discussion circles were held on topics such as care for the environment in which the children learned about pollution, its types and the effects it produces in the community. All this through telephone monitoring sessions.

Finally, the JUCONI team produced a video in which the educators shared with the children the reading of stories.

In conclusion, this report shows the achievements and results obtained from the project, which although significant, also allow us to observe some of the difficulties and areas of opportunity where further work is needed, such as access to communication tools or flexible timetables, as elements to be considered in order to guarantee continuity of care for the children.
Fortunately, we have begun to have face-to-face sessions in JUCONI spaces, always maintaining security measures for greater protection for all.

Facing adversity. COVID-19 Health Contingency

Due to the difficulties caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Fundación JUCONI Mexico A.C. has implemented several important strategies to be able to continue with its projects and provide the attention that children in early childhood need to continue developing properly.

In this sense, since the beginning of the health emergency, until today, among the main activities that have been established are:

Virtual school support measures, in which through video calls or videoconferences, the activities or tasks that the children are carrying out are followed up together with regularization hours in order to guarantee a constant monitoring and evaluation process.

On the other hand, with the objective of taking care of the physical and mental health of the children and their families, remote therapeutic sessions have also been established, that is to say, psychological counseling, as well as actions to raise awareness about good eating habits, hygiene and cleanliness due to the importance of keeping healthy and safe, especially during these time of the year.

During these months JUCONI has worked together in the creation of safe spaces and environments for interaction between children and their families to help improve their coexistence, since their homes are currently the place where they spend most of their time and it is necessary that they are suitable for them and meet their needs to the greatest extent possible.

Undoubtedly, it has been an important challenge to face that entails the adaptation of each element oriented to its proper functioning, however, the process of accompaniment through various material and emotional resources, didactic, such as videos, photographs, calls, has generated that the children and their families do not feel alone during the period of confinement and that their quality and rhythm of life has been stable, ensuring their social welfare.

The challenges continue

During the months after the contingency started, we began with a series of activities that were appropriate to this contingency we are going through, that is, we sought to continue interacting with the children and their families.

Among the main activities that were implemented there were videos that seek to teach or leave a message for all children, such as, there is a video where we teach to children how to identify their emotions and how to balance the mor how to carry them, now in this new normality it is very common that they are experiencing various emotions and do not know how to hand let hem, that was the main reason why JUCONI seeks to show them how to do it.

In addition, the children were taught the importance off or ming cleaning habits all this in order to mainta in a clean space free of any virus, due to the current situation is delicate, these new habits were always accompanied by visual material to the children for a better understanding.

Some of the main challenges for this activity was that not all children could always do the activity or there was not always availability.

In addition, there were also frequent telephone calls to be able to provide follow-up and monitoring of the children, during these calls various activities were developed, among them there were games withe ducational purposes and to promote a coexistence with the family, within these calls had a good response from several families, another important challenge was the Schedule due to it was not always possible to find everyone at the same time.

On the other hand, JUCONI was also teaching to the children the importance of doing household chores, all this with the purpose of teaching them the importance of contributing to their home, it was not only left to the chidren since their parents were also taught to make them participate in the household chores.

Finally, with the return to school, some videos were shown to the children so they knew how this return with the new normal would be, in addition we are still maintain ingcontact by pone calls to help them with their home work or follow up and in this way children can have a good development in school.

The challenges continue but the actions are even greater.
