Increarcing access of farm inputs among farmers

According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, nearly 60% of farmers cannot afford high-quality inputs up front. This is to lack of finances that can aid in the purchasing of farm in puts and knowledge on the available market for high quality inputs which limits farmers’ ability to increase yields and incomes.

At the start of season through the Agricultural Loans program, we provided cash loans of 5 percent interest to 31 small holder farmers of Kitoba subcounty to enable the access farm inputs like premium seeds, organic fertilisers, pesticides and others, enabling them to plant on time and boost productivity. These loans are repaid after harvest, when farmers have cash in hand, helping them avoid the risk of high-interest loans or predatory lending.

Most of  farmers who received the loans were women and youth, showing their strength and dedication to their work. Before receiving the loans, they were assessed and also went through training to learn how to use the money wisely, repay on time, and information on markets where they can access high quality farm inputs. This training helps ensure that their efforts lead to lasting change.

Thanks to their commitment, everyone who participated now has access to loans that open new opportunities—more crops, better income, and stronger families. This project is part of our regional effort to empower communities, support sustainable farming, and create lasting change
