Rural women in Uganda are on the frontlines of climate change, facing disproportionate challenges due to financial and resource constraints. This project empowers women-led groups to fight climate change through agroecology-sustainable farming methods that restore soil health, conserve biodiversity, and adapt to a changing climate. Combined with practical solutions such as land planning, agroforestry, and energy-saving stoves, women become decision-makers and agents of community resilience.
In Uganda, women form a significant part of the agricultural workforce and natural resource management. Yet, they face multiple barriers, including: - Limited financial resources and access to services - Lower decision-making power due to gender inequalities and cultural norms - Climate impacts like droughts, floods, and natural disasters, which increase their workload (biomass collection, water access) and threaten food security
This project empowers two women-led groups in Uganda to combat climate change through agroecology. Key activities include women-led savings groups for funding income-generating initiatives, agroecological training on sustainable farming, agroforestry for soil health and reforestation, distribution of energy-saving stoves to reduce deforestation, and leadership training to enhance women's roles in decision-making and climate resilience. The project will have a spill-over effect on other groups.
This project empowers 30 rural Ugandan women to lead climate action through agroecology, building resilient communities, reducing poverty, and promoting environmental sustainability. Women will drive climate-smart solutions by engaging in savings groups, agroforestry, and energy-efficient practices. Expected outcomes include 200+ women trained, 500+ trees planted, 150+ households using energy-saving stoves, improved soil fertility and nutrition, and stronger leadership roles for women.
